ibike still wont connect to my mac - (-1)???

Post by Barchinski »

Hey

So I am a newbie to all of this but have spent the past week reading up on these forums. I got my iBike put on my bike about a year ago and used it a couple of times. Its been sitting in the garage for about a year and I think the batteries went dead. So I switched out all the batteries in the system: iBike itself, both sensors, and still not getting any reading of cadence or speed on the iBike itself when I go out for a quick ride. Now I followed the setup process and all the troubleshooting pointers before I sat down to write this. I am still getting no response from my iBike. The speed and cadence or all set on to 'find' mode and I can't get any readings. The sensors are located on my back wheelbase about 6 inches apart from each other and the magnet sensor is on my spokes. So, my first issue is why am I not getting any readings????

Secondly, when I connect the iBike to my MacBook Pro I get the "com port" reading and (-1). I downloaded the latest 4 software along with the driver installer and still nothing is reading my iBike. Would anyone know a fix for this? I am trying not to give my bike up for a couple days and take it down to the shop who installed the system because i wanna learn it.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Andrew

Which version of iBike do you have - there are three generations out as well as three levels of the iBike?

Are you running Snow Leopard on your MBP?

Andrew -

Send a note to Travis Pape.

I was also asking about the firmware version on your iBike and if it is an iPro or iAero.

I suggest Velocomp support.

ibikesports.com

Or - compose a private message (available from the user control panel) , search on travispape and send him a message.

One of our customers found a cause for this problem.

When doing a "full install" of the iBike Mac software there are two separate program installations: the iBike Mac software, and the NI VISA software.

The iBike Mac software installs first, then the NI Visa software.

When the iBike software finishes its installation, a message appears that says the Mac software installation is complete. At this point, the user is instructed to install the NI VISA software. When the NI VISA software installation is complete the user reboots the Mac and all is well.

The problem is that in some Macs (mainly with Snow Leopard) the NI VISA installer launches (improperly) BEFORE the Mac software installation is complete. If the user starts the NI VISA software installation BEFORE the Mac software installation is fully completed, then the <-1> problem will happen.

In some SL Macs, the NI VISA installer window appears as much as 30 seconds before the Mac software installation is fully completed. This is not supposed to happen.

The fix is simple: when installing the Mac software, wait for the Mac software installation to finish COMPLETELY before clicking the "Install" button in the NI VISA window.

We've tried this on two different problem machines and the <-1> message disappeared in both cases after a correct installation.

I have the same problem and John's (Velocomp) solution has not worked unfortunately.
- iSport with new USB adapter
- MacBookPro Intel, Leopard (not Snow Leopard)
- iBike 4.0.4 software

As John described, the NI-VISA software install box came up many seconds before the iBike for Mac software completes its install. Even waiting until the big green check mark and acknowledging install before doing anything with the Install NI-VISA Runtime window does not help. The Runtime installer begins but then fails with the message "Could not validate contents of nivisaruntimei package". Presumably without this being successfully installed I get the (-1) connect message for the USB Adapter. Restarts and reinstalls have not achieved success.

I know the adapter is ok because software installation and device detection is good for iBike 4.0.2 on a PowerBook PPC running Tiger.
