Calorie Expenditure

Post by Avanti »

Hi All,

Question, just starting to get my head around WKO at the moment. The program is fantastic at really getting into the detail of your workouts, I've always ran my Garmin side by side with the IBike Pro and have comparisson data for every workout I've completed. Upon getting into the detail I have the following questions:

1. The IPro measures considerably less calories per workout then the Garmin, upwards of 1500 calories per workout on a typical long endurance ride. This doesn't seem like a huge issue, however the under-reporting effects the Performance Management Charts....Any ideas?

2. Originally I was downloading my Garmin files into WKO, however the 'raw' Garmin data again translates into different numbers then the IPro (This I get as the IPRO does its thing analyzing etc). I'm really questioning the point of having my Garmin on the bike anymore as I really don't need the GPS and only really use it for it's superior Interval features...Does anyone have any opinion?

Thanks any wisdom would be appreciated.

The calorie counter on the iBike is going to be much better than the Garmin. Garmins are notorious for over estimating calories. The iBike calculates it based on the wattage you are actually doing.

With WKO I just drag and drop my iBike csv files to my WKO calendar and it imports them.

I have to disagree with the Garmin intervals. I have finally had the chance to play around with the 705 and the intervals seem to only be based on distance or time, not wattage. With the iBike you can program specific intervals based on a wattage you want to hold, and the user intervals are great for hitting specific targets during a ride. Being able to see watts and average watts on the same screen for the interval portion is a huge advantage.
