What power am I generating on a 53x15 @ 85rpm?

Post by Paul »

Hi folks. I still dont have a wireless setup on my ibike pro, hence, I dont have the trainer function yet. But I would want to know how much watts I am generating at 53x15 at 85 rpm. My trainer is a minoura VFS fluid/magnet with the magnet setting at the highest. It feels like I am generating somewhere between 230 - 250 watts. Am I right? Any input would be highly appreciated.

If you are cranking at 53 x 15 with an 85 cadence on a 700 x 23 wheel then your rear wheel speed is:

53 / 15 x 85 x 2.096 / 60 = 10.49 meters per second, or 23.5 mph.

Now, you can use the trainer curve feature in iBike 3 (Device/Set Trainer...) to get your estimated power output at that rear wheel speed. I used the Minoura VFS-R new (L), and the cross hair feature to get the watts required to push that trainer to that speed. Looks like about 234W to me.
