Hi John,
i think that i wrote here as i also read from someone and also many months ago it happened to me in the MTB bike.
Today the PPv3 disconnect from the garmin in my TT bike.
Unfortunately i did not realize the exact moment since iam not looking the screen 100% of the time to get an idea of the cause.
The power went to -- and instantanely look for the signal and was NOT there. The icon was blinking so that is " disconnected" .
The battery was ok from ALL the electronics i have.
I touched one time the PPv3 button..... wait for a mini while... nothing
touched the PPv3 again.....(one touch)......nothing (the green light went on both times)
So, went to garmin configuration.... search for the PP..... founded..... and seconds later READY.
When this happend to me in the MTB bike months ago, the garmin refuses to reconnect and i did a hard reset for the re connection. But in the middle both firmwares were updated (garmin and PP) so, only for your information.
The i continued my biking day without connection problems.
But i found" something new" . As i have the great IQ Aeropod/Powerpod and like to see the WIND and tried....mmm strange....the wind and slope were fixed....it happened after the " connection problem" .
The power, i think, was reading normaly.
Also i did i bike fitting and " magically" my powerstroke get better!! very happy with this.
By the way, and in other perspective (nothing related to the connection problem), i think that the numbers are low... that " feeling" was told to you many times and you told me that all was ok. Today i felt the same.. in some sectors i put a good effort and cruising at 36+kmh the power showed 140w...then in other sector i put less effort very less and the power were in the 185w zone (and think that THIS is ok) and in other i put goood effort and the power was " only" 250w (where to my knowledge and experience was in the 300w zone)
Well.. iam attaching yesterday file with no connection problem and todays file with the problem at about minute 33.
thank you!!

Re: PPv3 disconnection
1) "---" means that the Garmin was not receiving the power signal from PP
2) Your ride file shows that PP was correctly measuring and recording power for the entire ride
3) When you used your Garmin to search for the PP, your Garmin reconnected to PP
4) Wind/slope information are transmitted on a separate ANT+ channel. When you re-pair your Garmin to PP, that does NOT mean you establish a new pairing between Garmin and wind/slope channel
PP is a sensor that transmits data over ANT+. Just like any radio transmitter, PP doesn't "know" what is receiving its signal.
From all the information you have provided, it sounds like your Garmin became disconnected from PP. I don't know why this happened, but I am seeing increasingly frequent reports of Garmin devices behaving strangely. It may have something to do with the fact that Garmin devices are simultaneous ANT and BLE. This is a guess on my part.
If this happens again, turn your Garmin off, then back on. If connection is reestablished then something is definitely wacky with the Garmin FW.

Re: PPv3 disconnection
wow.... i didnt know about the several ant+ channels that are used to trasmit. So, the power is in another ant+ channel and this one was ok?
Also is a very bad luck or bad coincidence that the problem was in the power channel and not in the speed or cadence, isnt it?
thanks

Re: PPv3 disconnection
You might try removing the power channel in the Garmin sensor setup and researching for it. The gamin may select or find both a BLE and ANT+ version and you want the ANT+ channel - this information is in the sensor details. That was a problem I had when I first got my Edge 830.
Also, double check what version of the Garmin firmware you have - for a number of models, I believe it is 5.50 currently for the 830 and likely others.
