Sharing with wife during lockdown

Post by Goenry »

Hi all, so I've seen the ease with which to change over to different bikes, and just like some clarity on a technical basis. My wife and I have decided to get a turbo trainer during lockdown and to maximise use, we decided to go with a feedback sports omnium hybrid roller and a powerpod v3. This way we thought we get a "smart trainer" and a power meter for outdoors. Obviously the smart trainer element doesn't include auto resistance on an app like Zwift or RGT cycling, but it's smart enough to track our power output and be in part of the cycling apps.

The question is, we have 4 profiles on the powerpod v3, is it possible for it to be assigned as me indoor, me outdoor, wife indoor, wife outdoor, sharing the same speed and cadence sensor? I tried to set it in Newton and it seems to accept the different profiles (weight, being indoor/outdoor) but how do we know which profile is being used when we switch it on if we share the same speed sensors?

If anyone could clarify the profile feature that would be really good, and whilst simple with one button on the device itself, be good to know what button pressed do on the device (I saw you have a nifty switch off option by pressing it 5 times but that was via a YouTube vid!)
Thanks

You should create two profiles: one for you and one for your wife. You can use Isaac to enter the parameters for each profile.

I'm not sure which device you are using; if PP then you can use Isaac or PowerHouse Bike app to set up profiles; if Newton, Isaac only.

Pair your speed sensor to each profile.

Because you are using the same speed/cadence sensor you will need to manually switch profiles. PP: use Isaac or PowerHouse App to switch between profiles. If Newton, you can use Setup to switch.

For indoor rides, you'll need first select the profile, then use Isaac to set your device to indoor trainer.

Thanks,
I am using PP v3, apologies have confused Isaac the software with Newton! I have used both powerhouse app and Isaac to explore profiles however, the profiles under powerhouse are only known as 1,2,3,4 whereas Isaac can be named as Henry or Amy etc. Seeing as we only have one bike each, would it be worthwhile setting profiles 3 and 4 as indoor profiles? Does the profiles match between powerhouse and Isaac? If I ordered in Isaac Henry then Amy, will profile 1 be Henry in powerhouse (profile 2 will be Amy)? I assume we both need to do the calibration test outdoors to get accurate data so how do we know which profile is in use for the calibration?

Many thanks,
Henry

Sorry for all the queries! We don't have a head unit but have a Garmin fenix 6 watch which can pick up pp v3 as a sensor. When connected it does show the power which is great but if the speed and cadence is synced with pp v3- do I need to connect the cadence and speed sensor to the watch as well?
Many thanks

I have resolved the problem. Have now bought another pp v3 and another set of sensors 😄. If you have any advise about what to sync whilst out on a ride, e.g. sensors linked to pp and pp linked to fenix 6/ (can it be synced to a phone if we haven't got a head unit?) Or have sensors linked to fenix 6 or phone as well as pp?
Thanks
