2 bikes same sensors

Post by blahblah »

I swap back and forth alot between 2 bikes, a geared bike and a fixed gear bike but i also use the same cadence and speed sensor for both bikes. So everything i have read it seems to be setting up 2 profiles for the powerpod for each bike, but i'm assuming that's with different sensors for both bikes. Do i also need to setup 2 profiles for each bike using the same sensors? Will the powerpod be able to detect which bike profile to pick if both profiles are using the same sensors?

Also one more quick question... for the check calibration in isaac does the out and back have to be done out and back on the same exact road, or can you do a loop as long as you start and end in same place? I've only had one ride but it was a loop, so i was just curious. Everything looks good, but i did the check calibration just for giggles and it's wants to lower the wind scaling from 1.4 to i think 1.2. I i think the 1.4 is more accurate thats why i was curious about the out and back.

Thanks

I'm gonna assume that since i will be using the same sensors on both bikes, that the powerpod will just do its self calibration and will be fine after the first 5 to 8 mins no matter which bike i put it on. Please correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks

Your assumption is correct!

Thanks for the reply. Just one more quick question lol.... when you do a 10 min out and back, can that include the 8 mins that the powerpod is doing its calibration or do you need to ride for 8 mins then do another 10 mins out and back?

It's all the same ride...a 10-minute out and back will also include the 8 minute portion.

Did the 10 min out and back this morning, and everything looks pretty good. I did a really long (17 miles total) out and back the day before which after isaac calibration changed my wind scaling from 1.4 to 1.07. So i wanted to do a more precise out and back this morning which changed the wind scaling from 1.07 up to 1.26, which seems better to me than 1.07.

Now my only concern is would the wind scaling need to be different for each bike, close to the same, or is that something that i would need to do another 10 min out and back on the other bike to see if there is any difference? They are both road bikes, but the geared bike which currently has the powerpod is a 54 cm frame where the other bike is 52 cm frame. Doing another out and back on the other bike would be no problem since when i swap bikes i usually keep everything setup and ride that bike for a couple of weeks or longer before getting a wild hair and swapping again. I mainly ride the fixed gear, but since its hilly here its nice to swap to gears now and then lol. This should be the last time to bug you, loving the powerpod and everything has been going great with it on the few rides i've done since getting it.

Since its cold this morning i figured i would move the powerpod to the fixed gear bike and do a short out and back to see what happens. Of course powerpod was really confused for the first 8 mins showing i was doing 300 to 400 watts, but then things seemed to settle down after 8 mins. Isaac made some drastic changes, so i had to go back out for another short out and back. This time powerpod was going the opposite way showing really low watts and then settled down after the 8 mins and i thought all was gonna be good, but then isaac wanted to make more drastic changes to the tilt and friction values. Anyways i updated the powerpod with the new settings, but i'm out of time to ride any more today.

I've decided that since i ride the fixed gear the most that i wanna just leave the powerpod on it since the values seem to be so different for each bike. I'm adding both rides so u can look at them, and want to know if i'm gonna be good with where its at now or do i just need to do a reset and calibration ride and start all over? Also it shows drafting in both rides and i did no drafting and yes it was very windy with around 11 mph wind. Dunno if i should post original files are the tweaked files, so i'll post original and then you can do the check calibration if you need to. Five mile ride was the first ride. Thanks!

Your Jan 4 1010AM ride looks perfect, including the first 8 minutes.

Your Jan 4 0902 ride is fine too, except the PP takes the first 8 minutes to recalibrate itself.

I think things are fine for both profiles. I note you're using the same speed/cadence sensors for both bikes, so you'll need to switch profiles manually.

Glad to hear everything looks good. If I swap profiles manually will it stay on that profile even after pp goes to sleep or do I need to swap the profile right before I go ride?

PowerPod will "stick" on the last-used profile until you change it manually.

Sorry to bug you again, but one more question. I removed the powerpod mount since I only have one, but forgot to make marks so I could put it back on in the same place. So I'm sure I won't get lucky and mount it back exactly the way it was. So as long as I get it back close will it be okay or will a reset and new calibration be required?

It's essentially impossible to relocate the mount in the same position; PP will detect angle changes of less than 0.1 degrees.

The good news is that PP will auto-correct itself after 8 minutes of riding. Just don't pay any attention to your first 8 minutes!

Okay I was thinking it would be fine, but just wanted to double check to make sure. Thanks again!
