Beginner Guide Questions

Post by lspringett »

Hi, while I have been waiting for it to arrive I have spent many hours reading round here and the DCRainmaker comments and there has been lots of very usual things commented on but not a single post that cover it all step-by-step in a specific order (please correct and delete this post if I am wrong).

Now my device has arrived I am of course eager to get it running and as close to 'dialled in' as quickly as possible so can someone please see that I have bought this all together correctly, thanks.

Step 1: Charge, install the device on the bike, pair with sensor and head unit using these instructions (http://www.ibikesports.com/wp-content/u ... 101815.pdf)

Step 2: Start a fresh ride and down an 'out and back' ride for about 10k i.e. 5k one way and back 5k the same way on my own/not group.

Step 3: Use https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5unDDFWWQaw to 'dial-in' the powerpod or if all else fail post on here and ask velocomp to do for me nicely (like here http://ibikeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=93&t=3726) and upload back to powerpod.

Then there are these question which again have been answered on there own but not sure how full under initial set-up.

- I've read about using Newton to set a profile based on my bike mount but will this be update when doing step 3?

- Do I basically fallow all the steps again when moving the a second bike with a second speed/cadence sensor?

- By default the PP has dynamic smoothing. I am using a Garmin 800. is it best to leave the PP with dynamic and set the Garmin to 3 seconds smoothing?

- If I take the unit off and put back on but not quite in the same way Ive read will do a re-calibration, will it just do this itself or do I have to initial and set it like in step 1, i.e. press button once done, etc?

Thanks again.

Step 1: Correct

Step 2: NOT CORRECT. You need to do the following first, then proceed to your Step 2

A. Pair your PowerPod to your speed/cadence sensors

B. Perform the 5 minute calibration ride, (flashing yellow light). Flashing light goes out when the calibration ride is complete.

Step 3 (your Step 2): Correct. Note that you can do the out-and-back immediately after your 5 minute calibration ride.

Step 4 (your Step 3): Correct

Post your ride file after you've done the above!

You can set those parameters after your out-and-back ride.

Hi,

attached is the ride, start with calibration for just under 5 minutes, then there is the out and back for 10km, then a bit of a ride afterwards.

When downloaded into Isaac is said about being default ride and let me put all my weight/height/road condition and profile name and sent to device. Will these need re-doing once re-uploaded the tweaked file?

Must say on the whole very impressed was quite erratic during the out/back but never anything major then in the later part of the the ride (last 8 miles) seem to react as expected to putting power down, cruising etc and pretty much matched to what my smart training says indoors.

I did notice a slight latency, the PP i gather was is dynamic smoothing and had just power on garmin so didn't know if swapping dynamic off and then 3 seconds on garmin would give me more reaction when using for intervals, etc?

Think setup in correct position (no cable covering hole, tight and straight as a spirit level lets me)

About the latency...
I just recently had many posts about this.I have a garmin 810 with the new magnetless sensors... If you have the new magnetless sensors then no matter what you put the garmin or isaac setting on there will always be a delay of around 3 seconds when riding and around 5 seconds or so starting off. This is because you wont get a power reading until your cadence shows up first in the garmin head unit.As soon as you get a reading on head unit from cadence sensor you will then get a power output in a second or two from then....(latency will not change no matter what you do,dynamic smoothing,3 second etc) Apparently the old magnet sensors were much quicker in giving readings and very little latency.....

That sucks, thankfully I am using old style sensors so isn't quite as bad as a few seconds.

That's great to hear thanks. Ill leave everything alone then.

I tried to use the 'check calibration tool' myself but not sure how to tell it only to look at the out/back part of the route, is there a way?

Also, I have set my own parametrises up in issac i.e. weight, height, etc, if I send these to the device I gather it wont upset any other settings?

Wind scaling set to 1.5 so gather that is about right :-)

Yes, you can set cyclist parameters in Isaac without disturbing other settings.

Hi, so done a few rides and noticed not much of a match to my indoor trainer or any other time
I've used power so thought I'd do another out/back today. Before went out used spirit level to make sure straight the did ride, cut the rule down to just the out/back as did recalibration then did analysis/check which showed sig. change needed and more realistic figures I would expect but wint let me send to powerpod as tilt is to night -4.5?

Hi,

Also the video that went up didn't mention the estimate tabs when using them anlysis tool, is this worth using to get an even more accurate figure I.e ride position

Thanks

Your wind reading was a bit "hot".

Load this profile and that should do the trick.

Ideal will do when home, gather taken from ride file so weight, height, preferred riding position etc held?

Also, are the estimate tabs worth using when doing analysis or not really?

Thanks again, love the customer service.

Not sure which tabs you're referring to.

All user parameters are preserved in your profile.

The two "estimated" tabs in the window when you select analyse>check calibration.

Got bigger fish to fry, looks like pod is now waterlogged, doesn't show much life when plugged into wall to charge or computer :-( trying to clean and dry out with ride and cotton-bud.

Hi,

Got myself up and running wit ha repaired device (Thank for the speedy service) applied the profile you sent above and went for a ride.

Have attached the out and back section of a ride I did, as despite the numbers I though looking OK when punched into issac it is suggesting sig. changes

Please can you have a look at the file and let me know what you think.

It look like I may have been sent a replacement not repaired device so not sure if that has to do with it?

Thanks

This is pretty close but the attached profile will dial-in your unit even more.
