Why is my wattage so low?

Post by rayterry »

What would cause my PP to show an average of only 3.6 watts? Now I know I’m a wimp rider (64 yr old chubby guy w/Parkinson’s), but my old Gen3 usually had my average power in the 75 watts range. Ride file attached.

The PP is solidly mounted in the combo mount and I’ve done what I thought were good out&back rides and adjusted the profile via Isaac’s Check Calibration. The PP is mounted such that the PowerPod line on the unit is pretty much parallel to the ground. The vent in front does not seem to be blocked.

Why so low? Any ideas?

I did yet another out&back check cal and got the average wattage up to 11 watts. But riding 15+ mph on a flat into a slight breeze shows be pedaling @ 0 watts. ??? Wind scaling seems ok/close as Isaac shows the wind changing direction @ the halfway point. What could be going on?

Your profile shows a negative value of rolling resistance. This is why your watts are so low.

Do the following:

1) In Isaac go to Device/Setup/Reset Profile-Device

2) Reset Profile 1

3) Do not enter any changes to weight, etc.

4) Do a new 5 minute first-ride

5) Do an out-and-back ride

6) Post the ride file here, then we will adjust the parameters.

Your ride file shows a lot of 0 cadence pauses. Are these pauses correct?

Did as directed and short o&b is posted. Hopefully it is long enough.

Yes, I coast from time to time... :)

Attached is a longer o&b extracted from today's ride file.

Note that Isaac's Check Calibration wants to increase my Fric even higher.

It looks like you did not reset your profile (steps one and two).

Until you reset the profile, you won't get correct results.

Please perform the following steps, and confirm that they have been done:

1) In Isaac go to "Device/Setup/Reset Profile-Device"

2) Click the "Reset Profile 1" option

3) Do not enter any changes to weight, etc.

4) Do a new sensor pairing

5) Do a new 5 minute first-ride

6) Do an out-and-back ride

7) Post the ride file here, then we will adjust the parameters.

Actually I did do a reset of profile 1 via Isaac. It reported back as successful. I was using profile 2, but did reset profile 1. Perhaps I should reset profile 1 and profile 2 via Isaac?

You need to use the profile that you reset. So, if you reset profile 1, then use profile 1 as described in the steps.

Here is the o&b that I did after resetting profile 2 and doing a 5 min ride. Hope this is what you're looking for. Your help -is- appreciated.

OK, this is looking much better!

I tweaked your profile a bit. Load this into your PowerPod and all should be well.
