My calibration #'s seem off and inconsistent pw readings
My calibration #'s seem off and inconsistent pw readings
New user trying to figue out a few things! My #'s are way higher than the range I've seen on other post. (1st calibration aero-.892 fric.-7.607 cda-.303 crr-.0072 wind scaling-2.945 2nd cal. aero-.956 fric.-7.201 cda-321 crr-.0062 wind scaling-2.978 tilt on both was -0.2). The #'s are very consistent so maybe there's no problem but when I ride my power #'s seem to go down. I zero my wind offset before every ride but still my #'s seem to be 50 to 75 watts lower than the guys I train with. I've had a few rides where the #'s seem to stay consistent for the whole ride but then other rides it starts reading low as the ride goes on. One note the weather has been cold and most of my rides have been in the low to mid 40's. Anyone have any comments or advice on my cal. #'s and my inconsistent pw readings?
Re: My calibration #'s seem off and inconsistent pw readings
Send me a couple of your ride file to me at boyd (at) totalcyclist dot com. I have analyzed thousands of power meter files so I should be able to see if anything is off.
A lot of times power will read lower at the end of the ride compared to heart rate. This is why power training is such a great training tool, 300 watts is always 300 watts, even though your heart rate might be different. A good way to test this is to go at a target wattage up a known climb. Do this at the start of your ride and at the end. Your heart rate could be a lot higher the second time up (or it might take a while to react and then not be able to hit as high a peak), but the power should be the same.

Re: My calibration #'s seem off and inconsistent pw readings
CoachBoyd thanks for the reply and I'll try and send those files this today. Just for your info. I have the new Gen III wired model and it's rock soild on my bars. I feel as if my calibrations are good even though the #'s seem different (but consistent) than alot of the #'s I've compared them to from other ibike users on the forum. Thanks again.
Just wanted to thank coachboyd for his help in understanding what was going own with my ibike and what great support he has given me. This a great product and I have already ordered my upgrade too wireless and would recommend the ibike III to anyone looking for a pw tool at a reasonacle price with great support to back it up!!!! Thanks and keep up the great work
