Power reading in wind gusts

Post by Etupes25 »

Hello,

I noted that the power reading gets really low when riding in 10-20mph wind gusts at an angle. When facing the gusts, the power tend to go up as expected (maybe not as much as the perceived effort, honestly). But at an angle (let's say 20-100degrees), the power drops to 100W and comes back to normal when aligned with bike.
Is it normal?

I get odd readings is some descending crosswinds but they are usually higher rather than lower. PowerPod do acknowledge that power readings when descending can be affected which they put down to a change in position. Personally it's my experience that even in my default position I get these odd readings. However it is not that often so it does not bother me given the other advantages of the Powerpod along with the significant price difference to a DFPM.

I would also guess a gusting crosswind does not affect power as much as a gusting headwind.
