Wattage doesn't display/collect anymore

Post by wxman »

I 've had the GEN I iBike for almost one year (picked it up at the BP MS 180 Bike ride last April, Houston-Austin) and enjoy it. About four rides ago, during a ride, the wattage stopped displaying and just read 0 watts. I figured it was a glitch, so I figured the next ride it would work, but didn't. Prior to the third ride I changed the battery out but that didn't resolve it.

Before my ride today I hooked the iBike up to the computer, downloaded one of the rides and all the data was there except wattage. So I deleted all the rides on the unit, set the time and figured everything would work fine. Unfortunately, the wattage was still 0 during todays ride.

Any ideas or suggestions? All the other data collected appears fine.

I have iBike for Windows, 4.0.2.
Firmware is 1.18

Thanks,
Gregg

Is your speed still working? Have you been able to download and get a ride file?
If so, can you post it here and I'll take a look to see if by chance one of your settings has changed.

Your profile may be corrupted - try downloading it to the iBike again to reload it.

Second choice is to do a hard reset on the iBike - flip the iBike's battery over and put it back into the battery opening for a few seconds - then put it back in the correct way. You will have to update the date and check other settings some get erased by this as will the pairing.

Yes, the speed has been working. Here is the latest ride file.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Your cadence sensor battery may be dead or is not pairing - so the iBike does not think you are pedaling - hence no watts.

This is a possible issue - hard-reset the battery in the cadence module - make sure it pairs with the iBike and displays....

Just another loose end to check.

A couple things are going on with this ride file. The first is that you don't have any profile loaded. Every paramter (weight, aero, friction) is set to zero. Do you have any of the profiles stored on your computer? If so then try re-sending that to the iBike.

Also, your tilt is way off. The iBike thinks it's riding down a -20% hill all day long. . .and it's pretty tough to register watts while doing that. With Gen 1 you have to do the tilt calibration before every ride.

Something that you may like is upgrading to the Gen3. No matter what there is always a profile stored in Gen3 because riding tilt and wind scaling are stored in the unit. Also, the tilt correction built in makes it so that you don't have to do a tilt calibration before every ride. I do a tilt calibration maybe once every other week or so.

I appreciate the help and information provided.

Before yesterday's ride I reset the "tilt" and then the wattage started working again.

I just re-sent the profile to the iBike and I'll see how the unit works tomorrow. I expect it will work fine again.

What would cause the unit to lose the profile. Is the profile stored in RAM that is wiped out if the battery
is switched? That is, each time the battery is switched does the profile need to be resent?

Yes, upgrading to the GEN-3 would be sweet, but right now money is going elsewhere. The features
do look very nice!

I'm not sure what would cause that to happen. . hopefully just a one time glitch. All you profile and ride information should stay good when you change the battery, you should only have to reset the time and date.
