Introducing AeroPod!

Post by Velocomp »

We are very excited to announce our newest project, AeroPod!

AeroPod is both a next-generation power meter, AND a dynamite way to measure on-the-road CdA!

We have launched AeroPod on Kickstarter; check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/po ... rm=aeropod:

Looks very interesting. Does the pitot tube have to be used all the time or only for more accurate reading and Cda measurement.

Great question! AeroPod will also work without the pitot tube, too. For dialed-in CdA, we recommend using pitot tube.

Is that the only handle bar mount or is there a different one for roadbikes?

AeroPod works on standard road bikes, too. We'll post more photos soon.

John,
Do this new aeropod "replace" our powerpod including the new feature or its a complementary?

im very interested in the aeropod but dont like to buy another power meter since aim in love with my powerpod.

Thank you!

Hi,

Interesting, couple of questions.

Does the use of the pitot tube fix the issue of Powerpod stopping working in heavy rain?

Does the aerodynamic features mean that power will record accurately in any position on the bike. As in how Powerpod currently can over record power on descents if you ride on the drops.

Look forward to some reviews of this.

Sorry, I was at Sea Otter and did not find these posts...

AeroPod ships with a standard handlebar mount for road bikes.

Well, that's kinda like asking if the iPhone 10 is better than the iPhone 8...

We've done some upgrades in AeroPod that will improve its performance as a power meter, and also enable CdA measurement. But if you love your PowerPod, well, so do we :-)

Pitot tube should definitely improve performance in heavy rain.

If you're using AeroPod with a DFPM, you'll see improvements on descents.

Check out DC Rainmaker's review!

I kinda get your iPhone 10 and 8 suggestion but can you elaborate? If I'm only considering the AeroPod for power numbers, how does its performance as a power meter improve? is it more accurate than the PP? Can it provide CdA without a separate DFPM?

AeroPod operates as a stand-alone power meter.

It's electronics, wind measurement system, and firmware are improved compared to PowerPod, and in our testing, we do see improved performance in cross-wind situations in particular.

I'm NOT knocking PowerPod...it remains a great product.

At present, AeroPod will require a DFPM if you want to do CdA measurements.

Hello!

I have some questions:

If DFPM (all of them broadcasts cadence), a cadence sensor it is still needed? As far as I know, now on PowerPod there is no way to use the cadence data from the DFPM. ¿An speed sensor it is still needed?

¿DFPM additional data like pedal smoothness and torque effectiveness is read from Aeropod (and written / broadcasted)?

¿On Garmin, do I need to pair the Aeropod as the "main" PM to get the CDA data? ¿Or uses another ANT+ stream? ¿Is it possible to use the DFPM as the power source and get just the CDA data from Aeropod?

Thanks!

1) PP picks up DFPM cadence data. Additional sensor not required

2) AeroPod does not record DFPM additional data. If your bike computer displays it, that's where you see it

3) PP receives DFPM data. PP transmits DFPM power, CdA, wind speed, time advantage, slope, data

I guess you mean Aeropod, not PP. Correct?

HI,
is the device recording all the data for later analysis, or is it mandatory to pair a Garmin to record the ride data?

Thanks!

A other couple of questions, please.

If DFPM, speed sensor is needed to measure cda?

If no DFPM, both sensors (speed / cadence) are recommended to get power on Garmin?

Thanks.

Hey guys, am I going crazy or is there no Aeropod mention on your website anymore for some reason? https://velocomp.com/ New landing page perhaps?

John, can you elaborate on the advancements in the AeroPod over PowerPod and, of particular interest to me, the Newton 6?

(Dang, I wish I knew about the Kickstarter project!)

Lots of important changes:

1) new, better performing wind sensor
2) new, better performing accelerometer
3) new pitot tube design provides better wind measurement, particularly in cross winds
4) new microprocessor. faster, more memory
5) complete redesign of calibration procedure. Out-and-back is standard, but now take only 5 minutes total
6) auto recalibration at beginning of ride takes only 90 seconds, vs 8 minutes previously
7) CdA measurement is enabled
8) transmits CdA, wind, slope, and Time Advantage to compatible bike computers
9) powerstroke, GPS Tracker and BLE compatibility are standard
10) complete redesign of case
11) new, under-the-bars mount accessory for "aero-shaped" bars
12) calibration ride files no longer recorded (they are confusing and don't provide useful information)

Can the Aeropod be used without a bike computer and have the data uploaded and reviewed in Isaac later?

Hello again!!

Can't wait to receive my Aeropod!! Meanwhile i do have some questions. Cda, Slope, Time advantage, etc are written on .fit, right? Can be shown and analyzed on Garmin Connect?

Have you tried importing .CSV files from Isaac in Golden Cheetah? Does Golden Cheetah read that data (cda, slope, etc,) as it does now with windspeed?

Thanks!

Yes. You can use the Tools/CdA Analysis function of Isaac to get all your data.
