Am i doing something wrong?

Post by rogerer »

I have been using my powerpod on and off for a couple of years, but last fall it started to give weird readings so I put it in the drawer. These readings might have been due to low battery on the speed sensor.

I have now updated it with newest firmware and did a full reset. Then I did a setup in Isaac (newest version) and chose best accuracy. Then I paired my garmin speed, cadence and hr sensors along with my Edge 520. Followed the lights on the powerpod and did a out and back calibration according to the insctruction sheet. After the calibration I did a very short ride, and my Edge showed real watts produced.

Then i left the bicycle for ten minutes (I do not know how to end a ride on the powerpod) and connected the powerpod to my computer. Isaac says it will not find a calibration ride, just the very short ride I did after the out and back calibration...

Am I doing something fundamentally wrong here?

If I am not mistaken, Powerpod doesn't register the calibration ridefile. It only registers actual ride files.
I guess the short ride is too short to produce calibration data.

It's in the release notes (somewhere)...we no longer record Calibration ride files.

So this means that it is calibrated?

Post the .ibr ride file that occurred after your calibration, and I will check things.

I did a new calibration and took a ride. Here is the file after the new calibration.

It showed too much power going downhill, as far as I can see.

Are you going into any kind of tuck on downhills? If so this would cause the high watts.

Just sitting normal, and on the steepest hills I am holding the lowest part of the handle bar.

I was sitting normal when I saw the high watts

Two things:

1) You have very large headwinds on your downhills. This suggests a mis-calibration of your PP. I would do a new calibration ride. High headwinds on down hills would cause high watts

2) If you're riding in the drops on downhills that makes you more aero, which also would cause high watts. If this is your normal ride position then you should adjust your CdA down to about 0.35
