DFPM cal ride vs check calibration for continuous CdA

Is there a difference between when trying to calibrate the DFPM/Newton+ to do continuous CdA
(DFPM is calibrated and Newton is getting Pin)
1. doing an out and back ride and then doing a "check calibration" in Issac
or
2. starting the cal ride procedure and then doing the prescribed distance cal ride
I find currently if I try to do #2 and then stop or slow for a turn during the outbound portion the newton + thinks I have turned and then begins to read "Bac"...
then I guess there is firmware issue of not being able to get out of the Cal screen without a hard reset...
thanks
