My PP went crazy this morning.
My PP went crazy this morning.
Everything started normal, PP pared with speed sensor , and Garmin 520 Plus. About a mile into my ride, the Garmin started displaying "PowerPod found" and repeated this about every 30 sec. Speed Sensor battery was ok. So I performed the 5 clicks to shut it off. I tried a hard reset, but forgot the sequence, as I didn't have that info with me. Next, I would get a flashing green light, turned solid yellow(orange). Agin, I gave it 5 clicks and continued my ride.
When I got home, I doubled checked the sensor battery, okay. I did a Factory reset on the #4 profile under "Device". Reinstalled the #4 profile. Tested in my bike room, seems to be working.
I could not find a light sequence understanding for , flashing green > solid yellow(orange).
Anything else I should check ? THis isn't the first time, it has happened on this bike, of the 5 I have profiles for. I think the last time, it was low sensor battery.
Thanks, Ken B.
Edit: Another issue I'm having, is I can switch profiles, easily between bikes, except, #4. When #4 is set in device,>set active profile for next ride. #4 pairs. Then when I move to another bike, #2, #3 the PP pairs to those bikes. Then when I move back to #4, it won't pair, until I make it active in devices. When I test, I remove the battery from the speed sensor, so no others are interfering.

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
"Everything started normal"...does that mean you saw power from the very beginning?
Solid yellow means your device was ready for a cal ride. If you did a new sensor pairing this would force a new cal ride.
After completing a cal ride make sure you click the button. Do not press-hold; this could force a new sensor pairing and cal ride.

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Buy normal, yes, I was seeing normal power as I rolled out the driveway and down the street. The sensor had paired, blinking green to solid green and Garmin found the PP. Same sensor that has been on that bike, since attaching the PP. Put in a new battery about a week ago.
I was about 1.5 mi. into my ride, when the Garmin keep repeating, at regular intervals, "PowerPod Found". That's when I did the 5 clicks to turn it off, and try to restart. The PP paired and after a short time, started doing the "powerPod found" repeating. So I turned it off, and tried to do a hard restart, but couldn't remember the technique , that's when the flashing green to solid yellow started. So, I just turned it off and continued my ride.
As mentioned above, I reset the #4 profile and reinstalled the profile, the PP now pairs, in my bike room.
The PP pairs with the other 3 bikes, but won't repair with this bike #4. I have to manually set it in Isaac .
Hoping to take it on a ride in the morning.Ken

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
I haven't changed anything, since adding speed sensors to all my bikes, last year. Nothing has been moved. Same profiles, too.
Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Mmmm that message appeared to me in the last ride... "powerpod found" in my edge 820. I think is the very first time that happened. In that ride i ve been riding fpr a very couple of minutes... like the pp had a disconnection. In other ocation the speed sensor dropped and the pp did not as you can see the 0w in the screen. In this case the pp stopped working as you see --w in the edge screen.
Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Yep, same thing. I've got fresh battery. Started out fine , then repeated the powerpod found message. I'm sure I accidently put the PP into calibration mode, trying to do a hard restart, in ride.
Hopefully , John will point us in the correct direction. KB

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
I just started replacing all my sensors with LIR (lithium Ion Rechargeable) batteries. At full charge, they have 4.0 v. I don't think I have ridden the other bikes yet.
So tomorrow, I think I will place a regular battery in, see what happens. KB
Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
I could as well be your Garmin which is the cause of the problem. A recent Garmin firmware upgrade explicitly mentions fixing a bug related to readings from power meters which was causing exactly the same problem you describe.kdx200 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 6:38 pm Mmmm that message appeared to me in the last ride... Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Thanks, ill have to see what version I have.KB
I have version 5.50
I have version 5.50
Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Are you sure? According to Garmin download page latest beta version is: Edge 520 Plus Beta software version 5.43 Beta (https://www8.garmin.com/support/downloa ... p?id=15149) As can be seen on the page for version 5.43 -> Fixed an issue with sensor connectivity.
Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Yep plain as day says 5.50 on opening page and in the 'ABOUT` page. I don't k ow what that's about or even how 5.50 got into my unit. Wierd

Okay, installed version 5.43. Now I have to reset everything. But I did you see this

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
So, using same bike as yesterday, PP worked perfect. I did INSTAL a standard sensor battery and down grade Garmin 520 plus to 5.43 from 5.50. Now it's hounding me to upgrade to 5.50. So I don't k ow which solved the dropping out issue.
Only issue remain in, is not auto switching between bikes.

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Downgrading Garmin devices is not supported. I did not see that. I find it very difficult to find files on Garmin's site and especially firmware files are a pain to track.Kcblair wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 9:54 am Okay, installed version 5.43. Now I have to reset everything. But I did you see this

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
The Garmin Beta site is organized by family of computer - Edge 830 is a different link than Edge 520 and so on -
If you download a new firmware installer, which may be a beta, the dowloaded folder will contain a different file that will take you back to the last stable (non beta) version of the firmware - instruction file is also part of the contents.
When you get a message through Garmin Express or just booting your Edge to install new firmware - it will only be for stable versions - unlikely you would ever get this notification for any beta version.
During the startup and you get this message you have the choice to ignore the update. In your case it looks like you have criss-crossed the versions and may need to check the current version from the system screen on your Edge.
Like I said - there is an instruction file in the folder that will download from the beta site - READ THE ENTIRE set of instructions.

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Thanks , looks like the current version is 5.50 for edge 520plus, and that's what reinstalled, after I tried to go back to an earlier version.
So I'm still puzzled as to why I was getting all the drop outs, Powerpod found, the other day. That issue should be fixed a riding to the update notes.
John, any ideas ?
Thanks, Ken b

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
PP records in its ride file exactly what it transmits to your Garmin. If there are no dropouts in your ride file, then PP is operating correctly.
It sure sounds like Garmin has an issue. Whether or not they have fixed it I have no clue.

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Yes John PP did show drop out in Isaac. KB
Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
I counted 19 separate file files, in Isaac , before I turned off PP.
Garmin shows no issue with speed sensor , during the entire ride, Constance speed through out ride.
Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
The number of files means nothing. Please post a .ibr ride file where you think you had a problem.

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Ok, here are the first 4 drop outs, plus the Garmin entire ride.

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Sorry, I can't figure out how to add a Garmin fit file.KB.
Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
When PP battery is low it will store ride files frequently, so that ride data won't be lost if the PP battery dies.
This might have happened here...
Make sure your battery is charged. Let me know if this happens again.

Re: My PP went crazy this morning.
Yesterday, same bike, only replaced speed sensor battery with standard. I had been using rechargeables 2032. PP preformed perfect yesterday.
I make it a habit, to charge PP after each ride.
Ok.
EDITED:Also, I don't recall seeing a low battery warning at start, or anytime, before powering down.KB
