Power and cadence

Post by GooseRider »

Today I was playing around with the PowerPod and my cadence sensor to fine tune CRR. I am running Yksion tires with latex tubes (700x28C inflated to 90psi). After doing numerous coast downs, it seems a CRR of 0.0044 fits best.

Anyway, as part of that I noticed the power reading going to zero 4 sec after stopping pedaling. It took 6 sec after starting pedaling again. I understand waiting a couple of seconds to not misclassify low cadences while climbing as coasting. 4 sec seems reasonable, it ensures that cadences down to 15rpm can be detected.

However, I don't understand why the PowerPod waits 6 secs after resuming pedaling. In my mind as soon as multiple cadence sensor events are registered it would make sense to output power again.

PS. I used 0sec filtering on the PowerPod and Garmin Edge 520 and my sensors are Garmin magnet less.

I have Garmin magnet less sensors on my bike. They take several crank revolutions to turn on. Until they do turn on, PP power will be zero.

However, I find that when I stop pedaling, cadence quickly goes to zero. And so does the power displayed.

I would check the power smoothing setting on your Garmin. If it is set to 3-5 seconds, this would explain the delay you are seeing.
