First powerpod ride - speed and power readings high.
First powerpod ride - speed and power readings high.
Hi
Did my first powerpod ride this morning into work, I set up my profile on Isaac first, but something about the speed/distance seems to have gone rather wrong - it's showing very high speeds and power outputs, which I don't think I can take credit for!
I did realise that I set the Tyres as 700x35 when they are actually 700x32, but changing the profile and retrospectively applying it doesn't seem to help (and I don't think would quite account for the difference).
How should I be tweaking this to get it right? I've tried to match it to the log from my Garmin but it doesn't seem to meet up very well.

Re: First powerpod ride - speed and power readings high.
Here's the .fit file from the garmin, which has the power readings that it received from the Newton.
It's worth mentioning that the speed/distance readings in the garmin might be a bit off as this was the first time I used it with the speed sensor and I think it might have been a bit off for the first couple of miles until I reset it's auto wheel size calculation.
(Had to add .ibr to the .fit file to get it to upload....)

Re: First powerpod ride - speed and power readings high.
Your total bike + rider weight is entered as 296 pounds. Is this correct?

Re: First powerpod ride - speed and power readings high.
Yep, I'm a big chap, and this was on my heavy steel singlespeed.
Re: First powerpod ride - speed and power readings high.
It looks like you are using magnet less sensors. Is this correct?
If so, make sure the speed sensor is on the front hub.
Your speed readings are really high. Make sure the speed sensor is on the front hub and that it is properly fastened. If this problem continues then I suspect you have a problem with the sensor.

Re: First powerpod ride - speed and power readings high.
Yep, magnetless sensor already on the front hub - I'll have a look at what I'm getting on the Garmin and go from there.
Re: First powerpod ride - speed and power readings high.
You have a speed on a 1% downhill of 55 mph. This cannot be possible...
I would remove the battery from your speed sensor, insert it backwards momentarily to reset the sensor, then reinstall the battery normally.
Press-hold the PP button for about 10 seconds. The light will go out momentarily, then start flashing again. This resets the PP.

OK, did that and the ride home looks much better - see attached!

Re: First powerpod ride - speed and power readings high.
This looks MUCH better, and speed readings are normal now.
What is your height? We may need to adjust your CdA a bit...

6ft4 or thereabouts, relatively short legs, big shoulders, big head. I tend to go for a fairly low position on the bike as I ride a lot so have built up the flexibility.
I'm guessing an out and back is probably the best way to do it?

Your Crr was a bit high; I fixed that.
CdA is OK.
Corrected profile and ride file attached.
