Coast down riding position

Post by timno »

Per the coast down instructions, you're supposed to do them in the riding position that you most frequently use (bar tops, hoods, drops, etc). I find that I spend roughly two-thirds of my time on the hoods and the other one-third in the drops. Given this, when I do my coast downs - say 12 for example, wouldn't it make more sense for me to do 8 coast downs on the hoods and 4 coast downs in the drops so that the average calculations from the coast downs are more representative of my riding positions during the course of a typical ride?

It might be even more instructive to separate the two, and then take a weighted average. Then you can see how different they are.

I'd use the hoods numbers myself. The iBike would then tend to over predict power when you are in the drops, but this also takes a greater physiological cost... which is why we don't do it all the time.
