Newton still going strong!

It has been 1 year since a prior post on this sub-forum.
I wanted to say that my Newton is still working great after 9+ years and over 1100 activities.
No problems with battery life and very consistent performance.
Only every several months does an activity fail to upload to Isaac. The power is still recorded ok on the Garmin so I only miss the Isaac analysis on a fail. I never automatically erase after upload anymore to limit any Isaac/Newton data failure.

Nice!

Agree no problems with Newton!
But where have all the Newtons gone? Did Velocomp vacuum them all up on Powerpod update offers?
My constant search of eBay never finds any.

You may be able to find some here: skopre.it
This was our European distributor. If he has Newtons tell Stefano hello for us!

Stefano sends his regards.
I have decided the Euro price and ship is too high for my purposes.
However he does seem to have some inventory.

Offer Stefano the price you are willing to pay. I bet he will take it...

Hello to anyone who is still reading this forum,
First I am more than just simply impressed that the topics related to Newton+ is still here and we get answers from Velocomp. What a long time support we get.
I am in the same postiion as texmurphy. I still have a Newton+ which is working well (11.5 years old) , but thinking about a purchase to have a reserve, too, before they will have fully vanished from the market.
I have just one question and certainly I wish to get a sort of honest answer (or at least an honest estimation).
I observed during years that my Newton+ had a substantial battery discharge even when it was not used (=being switched off and put in a drawer for weeks). As far as I remember it comes from the type of battery and the way how it works to preserve data, but maybe I am wrong.
Just to avoid a fully depleted battery I charged my Newton+ once a month regularly, and during this long decade maybe I forgot it just like 3-4 times. In those cases they were re-charged after 3-4 months, typicially at the end of wintertime.
Its battery life is still quite OK, I get minimum 12-13 hours in mild conditions (NB: NO Powerstroke recording).
So my question is what one can expect from a unit of a Newton+ being on a shelf like for 10-13.5 years as regards its battery? This units have not charged since their production.
Note: I got 10-13.5 years from these two posts https://velocompforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=2240 and https://velocompforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=24679#p24679 and
Do you have any real experience how they behave after so many years? I do not need a promise, more like an estimation coming from the characteristics of the batteries used for Newton+.
I would really appreciate your thoughts, John.
Cheers,
Another long time Newton lover.

It is true that the Newton's electronics will slowly discharge the battery when not in use. That is normal.
I think your 12-13 hours of usage is also normal.
It is a bit of a crap-shoot with a Newton that has not been used for years. I sometimes find Newtons that I haven't used for years, and when I do re-charge them they have worked just fine. The rechargeable battery has protective circuitry that is supposed to disconnect it when its voltage becomes too low, and that seems to work.
So, you can give it a try...but no promises!

Thanks again, and yes, my conclusion had been close to your thoughts you shared with me. But I am happy, because I learnt a new English word: crapshoot.
I contacted Stefano, but I deemed the price he offered too high considering everything: the age of the units, the battery risk, I still have a working Newton.
I saw your advice to texmurphy about a counter-offer, but I do not feel it right. In a couple of years when my Newton will die (will she?) I must have different feelings and even a bargaining may happen.
At least Stefano seemed to be grateful for your reference.
