Aeropod use with SRM and Garmin

Post by Erjis »

Dear Aeropod Community,

Can anybody help with a bulled proof way to operate AP with SRM as DFPM together with Garmin IQ app to measure CdA!?

How the initial pairing process goes (if different to normal procedure)?

How to calibrate and whether there’s a need for actual calibration ride!?

The important things to note are:

1) Make sure AeroPod is Off (5 clicks of button)

2) Make sure SRM and speed sensors are "on"

3) Click button to awaken AeroPod from sleep. This starts the calibration process ("PCAL") between AP and SRM

4) Watch AP light. Make sure it shows solid green (for already-calibrated AP) or solid yellow (for not-yet-calibrated AP)

5) If the light shows solid red, then PCAL was not successful. Turn AP off, then follow all steps to perform PCAL again

Below is from page 8 of the AeroPod Operating Instructions

SPECIAL NOTE: Calibrating an SRM with AeroPod

SRMs are calibrated very differently from other direct force power meters. When AeroPod is paired to an SRM direct force power meter or other “crank-torque-frequency” power meter, the SRM is automatically calibrated (“PCAL”) by AeroPod, each time the SRM is “found” by AeroPod. MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THIS “WAKE UP” PROCESS EVERY TIME YOU RIDE WITH AN SRM:
A. Spin the crank to awaken the SRM
B. Spin the wheel to awaken the speed sensor
C. Let the bike crank sit motionless for 5 seconds
D. Awaken AeroPod from sleep
E. When AeroPod detects that it is paired to a “crank-torque-frequency” power meter (i.e. SRM), AeroPod automatically starts the PCAL process
F. During the PCAL process, AeroPod light flashes green
G. If the AeroPod one-time calibration ride has not been completed (Step 5), when PCAL is successfully completed, AeroPod light turns solid YELLOW
H. If the AeroPod calibration ride HAS been completed, when PCAL is successfully completed, AeroPod light turns solid green (assuming speed sensor is found), then turns off.
I. If PCAL is unsuccessful, light turns solid RED, then unit turns off (to rearm PP/AP for auto PCAL)

Thanks John,

And while using Garmin (to show CdA, wind speed etc data) it should only be turned ON after these steps, right?
May heart rate strap with ANT+ connection/sensor be used during the PCAL process?

While ISAAC is having multiple SRM choises for DFPM, does it really matter which one to choose?
I'm running SRM Dura-Ace 9000 (PM7 / New Battery) with "SRM Pro" chosen in ISAAC for this specific profile.

The watts just keep showing ridiculously low number after the calibr ride with 120-170W while clearly pushing 250-300W. This naturally makes the CdA show unreasonably low numbers as well...

1) I would turn on your Garmin last, so that AP is awake and sending power signals to your Garmin

2) It does not make any difference which SRM you select in the profile

3) Please post a ride file
