PowerPod and Moisture

Post by tompo »

I have to say I'm very disappointed how the PP V3 performs in the rain or when there is any sort of moisture in the air. Previously I've had the PP V1 and 2, neither have performed as badly as the V3.

It is temperamental in the rain but it seems as bad in fog or mist. It's getting to the point where it's not worth using the PP when there is any sort of moisture in the air. Where I live in the UK we had three days of misty conditions, probably best described as a light fog. The power readings I have been getting are silly. It seems like the only time readings have been anything like accurate is when the road has gone up. Today's ride is a case in point. Everything seemed OK for a few miles then readings were all over the shop. I rode for 50 miles (with a midpoint coffee stop) but the PP must have turned itself off for the last 10 miles as nothing was recorded. I had to do a hard reset of the PP so that it would connect to Isaac. I have combined the two files but the second file said 0 miles covered but it obviously recorded something for me to combine it.

PP says that there was a 23 mph tail wind and a 7 mph head wind. However, the My Windsock app says the wind was between 3-5 mph and that I was riding into a head wind for 52% of the ride. This has been par for the course the last 3 days.

It looks like your wind sensor is becoming blocked by moisture around mile 10

If you ride regularly in rainy conditions you should use a pitot tube.

In Isaac you can repair this problem:

Highlight the area of blocked wind tube and use the above command

The power data now is "normal". Corrected ride file is attached.
