New PP user - first questions (updated)
New PP user - first questions (updated)
Hi,
just bought a ANT+/BLE PP and tried out&back calibration yesterday
FW is updated to 6.41
My ride yesterday was Out&back calibration, where led status behaved as it should in all phases (calibration ok) followed by an 8 km ride just after that, to see how power was behaving on my PP
I read in firmware update notes that from FW 6.40 the Out&back calibration part of the ride is not recorded
So, when I used Isaac to check calibration after my ride, why did it ask me to highlight the Out&back part of my ride?? I could not find it.
Also, I saw some of your video tutorials on youtube, in particular one saying that white line (speed) should always be higher or equal to blue areas (wind)
In my ride yesterday I had some wind coming back, nothing particularly strong but it is shown in the file.
Is my calibration ok?
I was thinking to do another calibration today where I would only do the Out&back ride.
Will it be shown and downloaded or if I stop my ride when I get to 100% and see real power values, no file will be shown in Isaac?
In other words, should one always do a ride right AFTER Out&back calibration to have that ride recorded and to be able to analyze calibration with Isaac?
In that case, should that other ride start and end in the same point, as an
Out&back calibration ride?
(I’m asking this because Isaac kept asking me if my ride ended where it had started, when I tried to analyze yesterday's ride)
Here is yesterday's ride, if you can check it and tell me if I need to re-calibrate
Thanks

Re: New PP user - first questions
You are fine!
Note that your PP and your DFPM are within 1 watt of each other...

Re: New PP user - first questions
Thanks for your reply and,..
Well...that DPFM is not real, I was just messing up things with Isaac trying to learn its functionalities
In the meanwhile I had a second ride today, with some problems.
When I turned on Powerpod to start recording today’s ride power, clicking once the led showed solid green, then it turned off but power on display remained at zero. Sensors were awakened because cadence and speed were displayed.
So i had to do another O&B calibration, after which all was ok.
Why did it happen? I did not change anything in setup before today’s ride.
May be the speed sensor was not paired even if speed was shown by Powerhouse app? (May be taking speed value from gps?)
Second issue, my PP showed some very high wattage peaks during the downhill and flat parts of my ride, today.
My ride was a 3h30 ride, the first half of it was climbing and the rest was downhill and flat parts.
By “very high wattage” I mean that I saw repeatedly 500 to 600W instant values, and also many parts (when grade was around -1% / -2% and I was pedalling) with 280-300W shown by powerhouse app and my bike computer (I am using them side by side in these first experiences, one is ant+ and the other uses Ble connection).
My FTP is around 180W (I have just taken on biking) and usual figures during climbing parts stay around 150 to 175/180 Watts, which I believe to be correct.
I noticed that when the high wattage was showing, there was some wind I was facing (I would say, something more than in previous parts of my ride where there was no wind at all)
I do not know if this can be the cause, anyway I will post today’s ride here later, asking again if you can check it as I am in the learning process of the whole thing
Thanks a lot

Re: New PP user - first questions
I think your wind calibration is a bit off. I fixed it.

Thank you, loaded correctly!
I will check it with next ride

Re: New PP user - first questions
I rode this morning using the profile you sent me
This was a good out&back ride on flat surface
Could you please check the file?
Trying "control calibration" for this ride Isaac still tells me that there is "noticeable change" (gauge indicator is in orange area, here below the screenshot)
Less spikes, but still some sudden "climbs" of power towards 500W and more.
May be the mounting? Or CdA should be lowered, for instance?

Re: New PP user - first questions
This looks much better for wind.
Are you using a mountain bike? The spikes are happening at places where you are accelerating.

Re: New PP user - first questions (updated)
No, I am using a road bike (Trek Madone 5.5)
I guess something is still not ok in downhills
This morning I had another out and back ride, 400d+ out, 400 d- back
As you'll see, check calibration say "significant"
I noticed than when speed was jumping over 40 km/h, power was rapidly growing up to 500 Watts, even if cadence was very low
This increases as downhill grade is increasing
So uphill PP is ok, downhill is not
What should I do?
Here is today's ride
Thanks

Re: New PP user - first questions (updated)
Any idea ?
Re: New PP user - first questions (updated)
Since this is an out-and-back route, the Check Calibration feature should work.
The corrected file looks good on downhills, too. Send the corrected profile to your device and you should get better results.

Re: New PP user - first questions (updated)
Before your last reply, on Sunday I had decided to change Aero and Windscaling by reducing them after reading here in the forums that some users got better results in downhills by lowering those figures
Sunday's ride was almost entirely uphill, no out&back, but in the few downhill parts of it the Watts I had on display were more coherent with being on a downhill and pedalling with ease.
Here are the settings I tried
I will try them again in an Out&back ride tomorrow
Here is Sunday's ride
Any opinion is welcome!
Thanks
