HRM won't show & Cadence Sensor changes to 255 mid ride

Went for a ride today. Initial problems getting Garmin 500 to see Powerpod. Then Garmin shows no HRM. Then, in mid ride my magnetless Garmin cadence sensor shows 255. No matter what I do, the reading stays the same.

Never had any problem with the HRM nor cadence sensor before trying to use the Powerpod (and I'm not convinced that the Powerpod is displaying the correct power readings)

Would it be useful for me to upload the file from the Powerpod to see if there is something untoward in it?

Looks as if the Powerpod split my ride in two.

I definitely was not banging out over 1000W in the first mile!

The first spike in the 28 mile file is where I tried to reboot the Garmin to get the HRM working. You can see where the cadence sensor stopped and set itself to '255'.

Help!

PP will have zero influence on your sensors working with any other device.

So, if you had to reboot your Garmin in order to get HR working, then the problem is most likely due to spotty operation of your HR strap.

Same is true of your cadence sensor.

As a precaution I would do a hard reset of PP (press-hold its button for about 10 seconds, until its light goes out momentarily, then starts flashing).

Also, the first 8 minutes of your ride is where PP recalibrates itself. That is the reason for the strange numbers in your 1 mile ride file.

I don't know why PP split the file in 2, unless you stopped for over 20 minutes, or you did a hard reset of PP.

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't stop, so the splitting of files is a mystery. I'll see what happens next time. Will the first 8 minutes of every ride be the same while PP calibrates?

HRM: Don't think there was a a problem with the HRM as it seems to have recorded in PP - It just wouldn't display on Garmin. I've managed to repair it with the Garmin now.

Just been out to the bike to try to pair the cadence sensor again with the Garmin (with the PP switched off). Now it won't pair! I also can't get the speed sensor to pair either!

It would seem I have one or more of the following issues:
1. I have a problem with the cadence sensor
2. I have a problem with the Garmin 500
3. I have a problem with the PP
;)

Success! The problems I was suffering seem to have been down to a fading battery in my cadence sensor. I changed the battery and all of a sudden 'everything' seemed to work much better.

I did the following:

1. While the Powerpod was turned off I reconnected the HRM and cadence sensor to my Garmin.
2. I turned the Garmin off.
3. I woke up the speed and cadence sensors (I thought)
4. I switched on the Powerpod , which synced with the speed, cadence and HRM monitor quickly.
5. I turned on the Garmin, which linked to the Powerpod straight away and asked if I wanted to calibrate. (I said yes and just backed out of the menu)

The cadence still showed 255 until I pedalled down the road a little. I put that down to the fact that I hadn't woken the sensor properly. The Garmin beeped and then all of a sudden the cadence showed properly as did the power readings. I've attached the file as you can see that the power fluctuations are minimal.

Many thanks for your help. :D

Now, all I need to do is work out how I use this data in both real time and after ride analysis to improve my fitness/cycling! :|
