Power seems too high for a fat boy...

Attached is a file from today where I did the CTS 8-min FTP test. Still a bit windy here. I used the profile coming out of the test you reviewed in this thread http://www.ibikeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=93&t=4046.

The test showed an FTP of 262w, which seems really high to me given how I see my condition (although it does come out to 2.5w/kg given I'm carrying about 50 excess pounds right how).

When I run the check calibration stuff it suggests adjusting for no drafting, and while not an out and back course it does start finish at the same place which puts the changes in the significant range -- and increases the power readings. FYI, I have not accepted those changes so my PP profile is the one on the device for the test.

As you review the file would you make adjustments to the profile, or is it very probably I'm actually generating that much power?

John, am still hoping you can review and confirm or tweak the profile settings. I have included an a additional ride if that would be helpful. Still a bit windy here.

It looks very windy there!

Your PP is properly calibrated; the wind numbers balance nicely on your out-and-back, even though you have a lot of wind!

I don't see any reason to change anything.

Thanks, John. Sorry to keep coming back to this. My perception is that the PP is someone reading wind as higher than it it and that watts into the wind are higher than I would think based on PE You've commented about how windy the rides are; when I go back and review historical data the winds seem fairly "normal" to me.

For example, the most recent 4-17 ride had winds of 8-10 mph. Still trying to wrap my head around whether watts recorded are appropriate for the work effort. If the PP is calibrated and reading correctly, what tools do you have for brain recalibration? :o

What I do is look for symmetry in wind readings on an out-and-back.

You have nearly perfect symmetry here, so I honestly don't see anything that I would suggest changing.

Your watts are entirely appropriate, given you bike speed, weight, and hill slope.

Yes, you might have to readjust your brain to know that you are better than you think!
