AeroPod, PowerPod and Newton

I bought a K-Edge Combo Mount XL for my Garmin Edge 1000 and PowerPod.

I notice that when the PowerPod is set in the correct horizontal orientation, the Garmin Edge 1000 screen is angled slightly downward towards the front of the bike, sloping away from the rider. There's no apparent adjustment on the mount to change this.

This isn't a catastrophe, but nor is it ideal for a mount costing roughly $60. Ideally, the Garmin screen should be slanted slightly backward so the screen is perpendicular to the rider's line of sight when viewing the Garmin.

I notice that there's a PowerPod handlebar combo mount costing roughly the same amount as the K-edge. The photos make it look as though it shares the same problem. But does it?

Has anyone tried both mounts? If so, what are the notable differences in the Garmin viewing angle? (I can return my K-Edge for a full refund if the PowerPod Handlebar Combo Mount is better.)

If both suffer from this problem, has anyone modified either one to allow the Garmin screen to be tilted slightly towards the rider while the PowerPod sits perfectly horizontal?

You want to keep the "PowerPod" logo within about +/- 20 degrees of parallel to the road. It does not have to be exactly level.

Here is what I would recommend:

1) The K-Edge mount should work

2) By design, some small degree of rotation is possible when the PP is attached to a combo mount. You want to rotate the PP so that it is pointed "down" as much as possible.

3) Attach your PP to the mount but, instead of following the printed instructions, (which tell you to rotate PP such that it points as "high" up as possible by pushing down gently on the top of the PP, from the rear of the case), INSTEAD, rotate PP DOWN as much as possible, by pushing gently from the FRONT of the case.

4) With PP mounted as in step 3, now attach the mount to your bike, rotating the mount so that the word "PowerPod" is pointed upwards no more than 20 degrees.

These steps will give you the maximum amount of viewing advantage for your PowerPod.

I noticed something else - the GoPro mount on the bottom of the K-Edge is not symmetrical. In fact, the inner (top) edge of the engagement grooves on the GoPro mount are not parallel to the K-edge arm. They slope slightly. I removed the GoPro mount from the K-edge, reversed it, and it changes the Garmin orientation from facing slightly downwards towards the front of the bike to slightly upwards. Together with your solution, this eliminates the problem.

My PowerPod graphs in the Isaac software have consistently indicated more wind assist than I'd expect. My brake and shifting cables are ahead of the PowerPod. They do not directly block the port on the front of the PowerPod, but I suspect they create turbulence that may affect the "pitot" or "stagnation" pressure at the port. This would be particularly so when cycling against a headwind that's 20 to 30 degrees off to one side. We'll see how the wind term changes, if at all, with the K-Edge putting the Powerpod completely clear in front of all cables.
