SETUP PROBLEM: POWERPOD IS STUCK (LOOPS) IN CAL RIDE MODE
We have had a VERY FEW customers report that, when doing the 5 minute PowerPod calibration ride, the power readings go from 1—>98W (as expected), then “normal” watts appear for a few seconds, but then the calibration sequence repeats over and over (1—>98W, 1—>98W, etc.). The PowerPod loops endlessly in the 5 minute ride sequence.
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM THERE IS NO REASON TO CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR SETUP!
CAUSE OF THE LOOPING PROBLEM
What is happening is that the PowerPod has been pointed too far away from level: in the photo below the PowerPod is pointed too high towards the sky (the Newton is approximately parallel to the pavement beneath, it but the PowerPod is pointed up at about a 30 degree angle).
Here is a combo mount installation, showing the problem of the PowerPod being pointed too high:
NOTE: The looping problem will also appear if the PowerPod is pointed downwards excessively.
THE CORRECT MOUNTING
The instructions show PowerPod being approximately level (that is, the word “PowerPod” is approximately parallel to the pavement beneath it, that is, +/- 20 degrees from level):
HOW TO FIX THE LOOPING PROBLEM
If you have experienced the calibration “looping" problem, here is the very simple fix:
1) Re-angle your mount so that the word “PowerPod" is reasonably parallel to the pavement beneath it (it does not have to be exactly parallel, anywhere +/- 20 degrees from parallel will work).
2) Let your PowerPod rest, without speed readings, for 5 minutes, so that the PowerPod flushes its memory of the previous 5 minute ride data.
3) Repeat the 5 minute ride. This one should work!
