Need to fix wind scaling?

Post by droffsite »

The attached file from the 10th seemed reasonable (perceived exertion, winds seem balanced). Today's ride, not so much. Seems okay on the way out (to about 18 minutes), but fell apart on the way back. Looks like the wind reading is way off.

What's the best way to try to fix this? Check Calibration or Analyze Route? Or...? Looks like the recorded wind values hit a hard 0 making recovery either way not great.

Also, any idea why this happened (assuming the profile isn't off)?

Looks like the wind port has been blocked from about six miles in. Was it raining on the ride? My experience is you get about 10 to 20 minutes in the rain before the wind port blocks. If you have ridden the rest of the ride in the one direction you can manually use Issac to change the wind value to what the wind speed was. I don't bother to be honest, I just ride until the port blocks (you will notice the big drop off in watts) and then just turn off the PowerPod for the remainder of the ride. I even have a separate HR only screen on my Garmin for such occasions.

It was drizzling (at most). I was wondering if that might be the culprit. I thought the V3 was supposed to be okay with a bit of rain.

I'll try doing a wind offset and see what that gives me.

I would say from experience any kind of rain will block the port especially drizzle, that will be your issue. I doubt it is windscaling given the previous ride and this one until the blocked port look okay.
