Calibration Ride

Post by Phil »

Hi John,

I have been using the PP since early May 2016. I have done about 55 rides with it and really like it. I was originally using the handlebar mount that came with it but switched to the PP/Garmin combo mount sometime in early June 2016. Today was the first time that I ever did a 10-minute out and back calibration ride. I rode on a newly paved, fairly flat, straight, quiet country road. I had a strong headwind (9 mph gusting to 19 mph) on the "out" portion and a strong tailwind on the "back" portion. The road runs nearly perfectly north-south and the wind direction was NNE. I turned around after 6 minutes and the total duration of the ride is just over 10 minutes. I was only passed by a handful of cars and trucks.

When I got home, I connected my PP to Isaac and clicked on Analyze --> Check Calibration. I received a message asking if I drafted to which I said "no" (it thought that I drafted 5.5% of the time). I then made a few minor modifications to traffic conditions, rider height and tire grade. As you can see in the attached screenshot, the significance of the profile change is "noticeable" according to Isaac. Also attached is a photo of my PP attached to my bike.

What is surprising to me is that the wind scaling has decreased from 1.400 to 1.294. Based on other posts in this forum, I thought that it should have increased to around 1.700. Also, if I am understanding the data correctly, it appears that my average power has been about 10% too high for my rides.

Could you please review the attached ride file (*.ibr) and let me know:
1. Was this a "good" out and back calibration ride or should I do another one?
2. Should I accept these changes and "send profile to iBike"?

Thanks,

Phil

Wind scaling depends on position and angle. Your PP is pointed higher in the air, due to the combo mount, so it gets more wind. So, your wind scaling correction is less.

Your calibration is fine. Accept them and send them to your PP.
