new powerpod, no wind/elevation values, low wattage

Post by alex77 »

Hi,

i just got my powerpod and Garmin 520. Today i did 2 short rides for calibration purposes and to see if all sensors work properly. But… i think a have a problem.

The power readings are fairly low, too low.

As far as i understand it. wind readings of „0“ and Elevation „0“ are suspect? And for a circular ride only a tail wind is mentioned not a head wind?

Another thing. Every now and then the red powerpod led is on, while the bike is stationary for hours, one click of the button and the red led flashes another click led is off.

Please could somebody take a look at my ride data and tell me if and where i might have a configuration problem.

Thanks

Alex

I had similar issue bcs. of a too low value for the wind scaling value. Have a look into your profile and check the value. In my case it was by deault always put to 1.000 which is way too low.

There is no wind reading and your elevation is dead flat--both are problems.

Press-hold the PowerPod button for 10 seconds or so, until it goes out briefly and then starts flashing again. This does a hard reset of the device.

Hopefully the hard reset will fix things.

Then, go out for a ride and post your ride file.

If you still don't have wind and elevation readings please contact technicalsupport@velocomp.com

Hi,

thanks for quick reply (on a saturday no less). i went for short ride for the third time today ;) . But unfortunately without much success.

...did the mentioned "hard reset" twice!?

1. did hard reset : push + hold button for 10+ seconds till red light flashes
2. pairing of speed sensor + pairing garmin 520
3. start calibration ride BUT no flashing yellow light!!! .... rinse & repeat

1. & 2. & 3. But again no yellow light!!! no count up to 100 in the power display of the garmin

went for a short quick(ish) ride, with considerable headwind here in Northern Germany today ( if this info helps )

the resulting ride file :

OK, let's try one final thing...

1) connect your PowerPod to Isaac

2) Go to "Device/Setup/Reset Profile-Device..."

3) Click the "Reset Profile 1" button

4) Disconnect your PP from Isaac, wait for the light to go out

5) Click the PP button. It should show solid red (if it does not, stop here...)

6) After showing solid red, press-hold button for 4 seconds to pair to your sensors

7) Light should show solid yellow.

8) do a 5 minute ride (1W-->100W), then a short ride thereafter

9) Post the two ride files

I'm suspecting that your PP needs replacement, but this will definitely tell the story.

Sorry for the hassle... :-(

ok, here we go...

1) done
2) and 3) first try (com error) second try done
4) disconnected but during steps 1-4 no solid light on
5) clicking PP button : flashing red light ( 9 times )

i am stopping here... :?:

(edit: as i am writing this post... the solid red light comes on and stays on .....)

an email with my problem was sent previously to technicalsupport@velocomp.com

and it's no hassle, i really want to get this pp working properly.

and know what? should i contact the vendor directly?

OK, if you got the light to go solid red, that is a good thing...

Pair your PP to your sensors (press-hold for 4 seconds). Light should then become solid yellow.

If that works, then do the 5 minute ride. Power should go from 1-->100W.

Then, ride for another 5 minutes.

Post ride files. If you still have no elevation change and no wind then you've got a bum unit.

Let us know!!

Hi,

one last try.

1.) charged the powerpod till „Light off fully charged“

2.) re-mounted powerpod to handlebar

3.) after waking up / hard reset? repairing of speed sensor and Garmin Edge 520

4.) begin ride. FLASHING YELLOW LIGHT and Garmin indicates count up to 100.

5.) after reaching 100, NO SOLID YELLOW LIGHT, but LIGHT OFF completely

6.) clicking button: NO GREEN Light, only a few flashes of RED LIGHT. after that NO LIGHT at all
during ride

7.) continue ride for 10 minutes with varying effort and speed, Garmin displays wattage between 80-90w declining to 48-50w

8.) unmount powerpod and connect to ISAAC, download ride file(s). Pop up windows with message „ride recorded with factory default…“

9.) wind and elevation values/readings missing.

further observations:

- erratic behaviour of der RED LIGHT when powerpod is not in use. Static powerpod, unmounted from bike, on desk… RED LIGHT comes on suddenly, click of button results in a few RED LIGHT flashes and then LIGHT OFF
- after all the hard resets, various calibration rides and sensor (re)pairings, never saw SOLID YELLOW Light
- never saw SOLID GREEN LIGHT ( only directly after pairing of sensors ) or FLASHING GREEN LIGHT "when starting ride"

I am at a loss :?:

Hello,

i am sorry to say, while the replacement seems to be working correctly on the bike ( i just got done my initial FTP test ride) , the USB connection is spotty and the USB connector is dying on me. i tried various different usb cables i had within my reach, but....

what know? another replacement?

i am very dissapointed
