Powerpod - Garmin Edge800 strange values

Post by PaulK32 »

Hello John,

I did get my Powerpod yesterday. I have read the (Powerpod) items on the forum and website. After the activities listed in the user manual (charge, firmware upgrade, mount) I paired the Powerpod with my Garmin Edge800 and did a few short test-rides. The first did the calibration and the second and third gave me confidence that the values that were shown on the Edge800 are "good". I had a look on the results with Isaac and I completed the profile for this bike with my digits (weight, wheel mm).

This morning I made a test ride to see if the Powerpod was good mounted and it did not need a calibration. It worked, but .... I see for some seconds a blinking green light, when it stops blinking there is no solid green light. The (power) values are shown on the Edge800. After this test-ride (it looked ok in Isaac) I started a normal ride. The first hour the values are as aspected (26km) with wind (SSW5) from the left-side, then I went over the river-bridge and the second hour the values are not as aspected. The wind from the right-side (SSW5) and the values went to 50W or zero. When the bike is a little leaning over to a side (yes, the wind in the Netherlands) the values are zero. The value does also goes to zero passing corners, still continuing pedalling.

I did have a look in Isaac on the results, but I am not familiar with all the functions yet. Could you have a look on the file and give me an advise what to do ?

I like the Powerpod. Small and it gives the extra values for my bike-rides.
Thanks
Paul

Your speed sensor is misbehaving. You are getting high-speed spikes everywhere, like those shown below. This will cause lots of problems.

Make sure your speed magnet passes within 1-2 coin widths of the speed sensor. Then, all should be well.

Thanks John. I will give the sensor some maintenance and go for the next ride.

The maintenance of the sensor for my (flatbar) roadbike has done the job.

I installed also a mount on my 29er mtb with the new Garmin speed and cadence sensor and the PP is working with the same experience as in the first rides on my roadbike. With strong wind from the right side (little bit from behind) the values are going to zero.

I have replaced the mounts on both bikes from the left side to the right side (of the stem). After a view rides on the bikes with windy conditions (beaufort 6) I can say it works for me :)
