100 Wasted Watts???

What could the explanation be for 100 wasted watts appearing at 3:16:30 for a minute or so? I was not aware of anything wrong at the time, my other metrics appear pretty normal. My recent wasted watts average out at 2w. Ride file attached.

One other question - I bought a new and better bike recently, which seems to have had an impact on my wasted watts. With my previous aluminium frame bike my typical figure was 3w, my first couple of rides with the new carbon frame bike have returned 2w for each ride. Is the improvement possibly due to improved frame design? Or have I just improved my pedalling style? Possible, but less likely!

Many thanks

For the few seconds where there are high watts you had really large side-to-side motion. You're climbing a pretty steep hill and perhaps you got out of the saddle.

This was only a 1 minute interval...so I wouldn't worry about it.

Here it is just prior to your excursion. You can see side-side motion is much less

Thanks for this analysis John. I didn't realize that I could select a brief period of the ride and then apply PS just to that selection, very useful. That said it would also be useful if the total wasted watts figure was expressed to a greater degree of accuracy, e.g. to a single decimal point (or more) for longer rides. In this way it would be possible to track improvements/degredation of pedal stroke on repeat rides.

Thanks again
