Incorrect MAX speed data

Post by rbe »

For a number of rides now, I have had incorrect MAX speed recordings. The registered speeds are generally in the +50 mph range, when I am typically having max speeds of no more than 20s-30s mph.

This inconsistency wasn't a problem in the past. I have had a Newton since 2013. I upgraded the Newton in recent years
serial number: 05-11-16-08-06-02-08-00-01-01-03-02-B9-7E-10-32
firmware: 5.18

Since having the problem over the last several months, I have done two re-calibration rides (a ride out and back, per instructions) to try and address the potential problem, but with no change in outcome.

I include one Isaac screenshot ("24 mar 2018") and two ride files for rides of "24 mar 2018" and "3 feb 2018", as examples of the recording error. ("3 file attachment maximum" -- otherwise I would provide you with the screenshot for "3 feb 2018" as well).

If you can help me overcome this "max speed" error, I would appreciate it. I wish I were riding as fast as +50 mph, but I can assure you that I am not!

Regards,

Robin Erickson

You are using a combined speed/cadence sensor--perhaps a Garmin GSC-10?

Your speed readings are erratic and are the source of your problems.

Do the following:

1) Remove the battery from your sensor, insert it backwards for a moment (this hard resets the sensor) and then reinsert it normally

2) Make sure your sensor battery is fresh

3) Make sure your speed magnet is properly located, passing near the center of the speed sensor probe

Hopefully, this will fix things. If it does not, then you should upgrade your sensors to the new Garmin magnet-less types. Put your speed sensor on front hub of your bike.

Thanks for the reply.

>> No, not that I know of. I am using my original IBike setup, including the sensor (bought in 2013).
