AeroPod, PowerPod and Newton

I rode a century today where we started in fog and temperatures around 54-57 F for the first 40 miles, then rising to the mid 60's by 60 miles. After 60 miles, things seemed to be well behaved. Looking at the Newton IBR file, it appears that the wind values are way off for those first 60 miles (>80 mph in some cases, zero in others), then settle into what I think of as a normal range around the bike speed.

First, what was going on? Condesation in the wind sensor?
Second, can the file be repaired?
Third, can this be prevented in the future?

Yes, there is condensation in the wind port, which can caused a blocked sensor. I fixed this with the Tools/Repair Blocked Wind Sensor command in Isaac.

I do not know what John`s opinion of this is but I have found empirically that using the out front mount allowed me to set up the Newton with a very slight downward slope, less than a couple of degrees from level so that the wind port would naturally drain. Previously I had the stem mount that was at +6 deg and I found in foggy or very humid days near the dew point that I did run into issues with the Newton wind sensor filling with enough water to block the sensor. However with the out front and Newton slight downward slope I did a ride last weekend in light rain and had absolutely no problems at all. So for those with wind port problems maybe the out front mount is the start to a good result. For me it seems to work.

I agree wholeheartedly with your observation--front mount with slightly downward pointing Newton will help with rain issues.
