speed failure

Post by stefun »

Hello,
I had issues with speed recordings: Ibike no longer display speed data. Speed screen show zero.

However I did a scan and Ibike newton recognize well Garmin SPDC and powertapG3.

When I spin the rear wheel, speed is well displayed on my forunner 910xt, but not on Ibike. Cadence is well displayed on IBike and forunner 910xt. I think that Ibike dont record the cadence signal send by the powertap (?), but by the combo spdc.

Do you think the problem could come from an Ibike bug?

I dont have the current update on my Ibike.

Thank you if you have a solution. I'm a little bit disappointed. I cannot use my device and analyse data with Isaac.

Stephane.

The version was 4.07.
And I just loaded the last version 4.16.
I tested the garmin combo with the garmin forunner 305, which can't pair with a dfpm, but can be paired with the combo spcd. This combo run well for cadence and speed.

Do the following:

1) Connect your Newton to Isaac

2) Go to "Edit/Edit Profiles..."

3) Click the "Extract from Device" button. Your Newton's profile will be highlighted in the window

4) Click the "Export..." button

5) Save your profile to your desktop

6) Attach your profile to this thread

This will allow us to figure out what is going on.

Your profile looks normal; that is good news!

Since your other devices are correctly reading speed, we need to check the tire circumference in your Newton.

Do the following:

1) Press-hold the up arrow of your Newton to enter Setup

2) Click the down arrow until you come to the screen "No Fast Start"

3) Click the center button; "no" flashes

4) click the up arrow to select "yes", then click the center button to accept. "Yes" stops flashing.

5) Now, enter the fast start screens by clicking the up arrow. Click the up arrow until you come to the screen that says "tire circ" (tire circumference)

6) Click the center button. If tire circ reads 0, this is the cause of your problem. Use the left/right/top/bottom arrows to set your tire circumference to 2096.

7) click the center button to accept, then press-hold the up arrow to exit setup.

Let us know what you find.

Hello,
I check the mode "circumference wheel" in the "fast start menu" as you recommand.
Circ was set at 2096 already.

I remember that before the device went wrong for displaying speed, the numbers were odd and intermittents. So, I would like to perform a scan and do a mishandling: set up menu opened up and then I could not go out of this menu.
So I carried out a hard reset.
Since then, speed = 0

Sincerly

The mystery continues...

Do the following:

1) Wake up your speed/cadence sensor (wave a magnet past it). If possible, do NOT wake up your PowerTap

2) Do a Scan (press-hold top and bottom arrows together until Scan appears, then release the arrows)

3) Confirm that you see the "SPCD FOUND" message during the scan.

4) wave a magnet past the speed sensor. Confirm that you see speed on your Garmin unit. Report what you see on your Newton

5) Using the instructions from the previous posting, obtain your profile information, then post it here.

Thank John to follow the mystery.

Sorry, I was out of the forum. I ride on the "Etape du Tour: Saint Jean de Maurienne - La Toussuire" yesterday. (happy memories :D )

I will follow your new recommandations and swap the powertap wheel for another.

I will give you some news soon.

Thank You

Hello John,

Like I wrote previously, I swap the wheel in order to eliminate the powertap, and perform your instructions.

SCAN detected SPCD well.

So, when I spin the wheel...And by magic speed pop up on the screen.

So I make an other operation. I tested my NEWTON with the powertap wheel, replacing the magnet on it and emulating both the combo SPDC and Powertap. And by magic speed was displayed, like power coming from the powertap.

Next step will be to perform a cal ride against he dfpm and use Ibike on my second bike.

here the extracted file from device, as asked.

Many thanks for your support John. Ibike is a good tool, and Isaac very usefull to analyse rides, compare them, displaying fundamental information, like TSS, NP, elevation on a portion of the ride, reliable elevation data.

Sincerely

Stephane
