CAD/Speed/power data erratic while on a trainer

]I have been using my Newton+ since last October and have recently noticed that the data while riding my trainer seems messed up. I am riding a Kurt Kinetic trainer.
Specifically the Cad and Speed data is very erratic. While the data is erratic, it has a very consistent periodic pattern. The data when outside seems ok.
I went through my files and it seems that the trainer data going back multiple months has some issues, but maybe not as bad. What is odd is that I don't remember seeing the weirdness until recently. A week ago I thought that the battery on the cad/speed sensor might be dying so I replaced it, but it didn't seem to have any effect. I have checked the pickup and it is close to the magnet. I also went back and relooked trainer data from a month or two ago and it shows some erratic results. The trainer data from last December seems better.
The CAD/Speed sensor is from iBike. It seems odd that it is ok outside but not ok on a trainer.
