"BAD COAST" WITH GEN I

Post by JONLEMANS »

Hi,
I have a Gen I. I am trying to set it up and having some difficulty. It is a wireless model with handlebar mount. Set up with all went well. No problems with sensors, wind, or tilt calc. The problem I am having is with my coast calculations. I mounted it on my full suspension mountain bike and tried several coast downs. All which read "bad coast". first I tried it on a dirt trial that was as smooth as I could find. Then I tried it on a the road...same result. Then I tried it on another piece of road (very smooth), still received "bad coast" message. What am I doing wrong?

I've had this problem, but I suspect it is due, to either going above 20mph like 21+mph during acceleration (before coasting), or turning the handlebars too far in either direction during the coast down. Am I right, anybody?

Going over 21 mph should not matter at all. You could go up to 40mph and it wouldn't matter as the iBike starts recording data when you are down to 18mph.
As for turning handlebars, you're going to want to hold a steady position and ride a straight line. But turning the bars a little bit should not be enough to give a bad coast message. I think Aaron knows what the cause is, and having the ibcd4m files really helps when we try to diagnose coastdown and profile questions.
