Gen III intervals timing question

Hello all,
I'm considering buying my first iBike (pro), and I have a usage question that I can't seem to answer for myself by consulting the user-manual. I know that uploading interval sets to the iBike is something that is now reserved for the iAero, so I am wondering how one times interval sets outside of using the built-in intervals in the iPro. I do a whole series of different intervals in training for cross. Would I need to time the stress/rest periods on a separate watch? I see the new "lap feature" which looks promising for this but it doesn't show elapsed time for the current lap on the same screen as the wattage, right? Having to reset a timer on a watch and mark a lap on the iBike before every effort and rest period seems like it would be pretty clumsy.
I know the iAero would solve this problem, but I don't know if I could justify the increased price for just the interval set upload feature. One could upload intervals with the Gen II pro unit right?
