I've posted this in tech support but I'd thought I'd post it here too as there seems to be a wider audience.
I’m having a problem downloading new firmware to my iBike and can’t seem to fix it. My iBike is one of the older models, purchased in August of ’06. For the longest time I used version 1.07, and the older version of iBike for Windows.
I upgraded to iBike 2.0 (which works fine), but can’t seem to get 1.16 to download to my iBike.
When I try to download one of two things happens…
•The iBike “hangs up” – that is to say it looks like the firmware is downloading but it moves slowly and never completes – in fact it never even gets 50% of the way there
•Or, I get an error message saying something to the effect of “Error Downloading First Part of Software” and then it just freezes
When the iBike freezes and the only way to bring it back to life is to remove the battery and re-install it. I can’t even download an older version of the firmware at this point. In fact it won’t download at all.
Is my iBike not compatible w Windows 2.0 and/or firmware 1.16? Is it something else that I’m missing? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help.

I had a similar problem with my iBike pro when trying to update a while back. What seemed to cause the problem was the old ride files that were stored on the iBike still. Once I cleared the ride files, the firmware update installed without any problems. Since you have reset your iBike and it still will not update, not sure if clearing old ride files would solve the problem for you......

Yes, all of the iBike Pros work with FW 1.16, so I'm not sure why you are having trouble. Erasing the old ride files like Robert suggested is a good place to start. Another problem that people have had in the past is their browser wants to download the FW file as a text file sticking .txt at the end of the name. Be sure you download it as a *.enc file. (You may need to use the "all files" setting.) Be sure the iBike is fully twisted onto the cable connector. It could also be trouble with the USB on your computer, so if you have another computer that you can use that would be worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have deleted old files; the iBike is securely connected to the USB cable: and I am downloading the file as an .enc file.
This is one for the X-files because I've never had this happen before going back to the earliest versions.
