CST Aero and CST Fric number check

Post by Bike4Him »

I've been trying to get things calibrated on my iSport so I could be confident in the numbers.
After much study, reading of posts, and e-mails to the iBike guys I think I got it.
Here's the numbers.

male
6'
160
total weight 185
ride on hoods
700x23 tires
mount is solid
all calibrations are done well.
I did a cal ride today in very little wind. 3.6 or so miles on slightly rolling terrain.
CST Aero .272
CST Fric 9.467

Fric seems high but please tell me this is ok...I'm sick of doing cal rides.
My FTP has gone from 188 to 220 over the last 2 months and I'm not sure it's legit.

You're numbers are probably very close, so go out and ride. As long as you do your wind offset prior to riding off, you'll have consistency and that's the most important attribute of all.

Rather than fight the data and all the numbers, use them to your advantage. Leave things as they are and continue tracking your progress. Do an FTP test every eight weeks or so. Remember, when you first start to train by power, you'll make significant gains as you learn to control your urge to hammer and mash and you learn to keep the pressure on when you start to tire. Like anything else, as you move further up the curve it gets tougher so don't expect those kinds of gains over the next few months.
