I was wondering if anyone has any idea whether operating the ibike Gen III at lower temperatures is affecting the strength of the signal received by the Garmin Edge 705, and thereby giving some effect to the Edge 705's power drop outs? If this is the case would the forthcoming new mount for the Gen III limit these losses, so to speak?. Both the units were operated side by side on my handle bars, so distance was not degrading the signal.
I'm tossing up whether to purchase the new mount or the ibike Dash.

I think the key to the power dropouts is positioning. I have an external battery for my iAero so my voltage is always 2.75 to 2.85. I moved my 705 to the front of the top tube and have fewer data dropouts although that's not the main reason why I moved it.

Hi Fernando. I have previously positioned the Edge 705 on the top tube, but this did not yield any better results. It is interesting that you have had somewhat better power readings with the external battery though. I think I might try an afternoon interval session (as the weather is quite a bit warmer at that time of day) and see if there is less of a power drop on the Edge. If this is the case, the longer life lithium battery in the new Gen III mount should suffice for early morning training. It would be good to hear John's opinion on this.

Just a quick update.
Undertaking intervals in the latter part of the day when the temperature was warmer seemed to have little or no improvement on reducing the Edge 705's power data dropouts. As per usual there were power drops of at least 4-5 seconds per minute, sometimes more.
