trainer mode - running fan

Post by roadrash »

I recently began using my Ipro in trainer mode in my basement. After the first few "rides" and dripping sweat, I decided to set a box fan in front of me, which worked great. The Ipro measures the wind, which is about 11 mph, but I have to assume the trainer algorithm is ignoring the wind for wattage calculation purposes. Am I correct in assuming this? I also did a fitness test on the trainer with the fan.

Yes, the trainer mode will only use the speed versus power relationship based on which trainer you entered. Wind is not a factor.

I found I have to be careful when using a fan indoors as the "wind" generated by the fan can cause the iBike to tune off the trainer mode. This is only a problem when I position the fan directly in front of my bike when riding on my rollers or trainer.
