Weather Effect on Cal Ride and Coast Downs

I have a question regarding the Title.

I just installed the wireless mount so I can use with the Garmin 305 and it's sensors. Knowing the Mount isn't installed exactly in the same place on the bars and maybe slightly different tilt and all, I suspect I need to do another Cal Ride and Coast down after the installation. Mother Nature assumed New England didn't need a fall since the summer was really mild and now we're into winter. Currently avg Temp during the day is in the mid 40's now. So after Tilt calibration, Wind Calibration after unit it acclimatized correctly outdoors prior to both, would a Profile created at 70 degrees be valid at 40 degrees? It's very dry here in the fall and winter months. Would the dryer air have a significant effect on CdA? If 10 degree cooler temps have a significant effect on HP in a engine, I would think maybe it has an effect here.

The calibration you did at 70 deghrees would still be valid at 40 degrees, however

It is likely that at 70 degrees you were riding in just shorts and a jersey, at 40 degrees you will probably have arm warmers, knee warmers, and a vest or jacket. All this stuff will add to your cda and this would warrant making a new profile. Having a summer and a winter profile is a very good thing, as those extra clothes can really impact your cda

boyd, how much have you found arm+leg warmers affect cda?

i'm a big baby and if its cold enough for a jacket, i just ride indoors

do long sleeves and leg warmers add enough drag to merit another profile?

My experience is that tight fitting arm and leg warmers do not affect CdA very much. A windbreaker on the other hand is a different story: 10% or more change in CdA. I learned the keeping the windbreaker completely zipped up to the neck helps limit the increase. I suppose this is because doing so avoids catching lots of wind in a partly opened jacket. In any case, while riding, it is easy to see if CdA is accurate for current conditions by checking power in the coast screen while coasting for a few moments.
