Newbie Question Regarding Power PLEASE HELP!!!

Post by smokey26_02 »

I recently recieved my ibike wireless power meter and it has worked out great. However I havent read all the instruction so I dont know how to use it to its full capacity yet.

Yesterday I did a C20 test, which is go out as hard as you can for 20 minutes. The course wasnt fully straight it was in a parking lot in which i was doing every lap in 1:30 and it had 4 corners so I know its not 100% accurate of my power output.

When I downloaded the ride and selected those 20 minutes, I got a avg power measurement of 335 watts. When I started playing with the software I put the option to analyze the ride with the profile I had done this past weekend. I did the coast down 10 times and the software took the average. Most of the coast downs were pretty close anyways.

When the software analayzed my entire ride, when I highlight those 20 minutes again, my avg power output was 388 for the test.

My question is which one is the real avg? Why isnt the ibike configured to my profile if I had sent it to the ibike a couple days before the test ride?

After every ride I download the ride and erase all data from the ibike. Does this erase my profile as well?

Thanks for anyone who can help me with my questions.

The iBike does not erase your profile if you erase data. My first guess would be the wind offset or the tilt settings. If either one of those is not set accurately then you can get a significant difference in numbers during the ride vs. after analysis. If you know you did good coastdowns and have a good profile saved, then I would say the numbers post analysis should be the more accurate ones.

Thanks for the reply. I think my problem is forgetting to zero out the wind offset before i ride. Do you think this is what I need to do?

Thanks for the advice.

Yes, the wind offset needs to be zeroed before every ride. There is another thread talking about wind offest and the best meathods for zeroing, in your car, in your garage, some place that you know there is no wind.

I need help again guys. I did the wind offset before riding, did a proper tilt also before the ride.

My goal for todays afternoon ride was 60 minutes at an easy 150-175watts. Avg after the ride 65 minute ride was 168 so i was within the range. I just wanted to do a slow and easy spinning ride.

When i get home and download the information and analyze the ride i get avg watts for the ride as 198. Well thats not much more but I want the ibike to be more accurate when I am riding.

I did a 5 minute interval at 330-370 watts but when I get home I see I was doing closer to 400 watts the entire time. What can i do to maximize my ibike so that the numbers i see when riding are the actual numbers when i analyze it in the software?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Send me a ride file and send me a profile. ALWAYS send me a ride file and an accompanying profile. And ALWAYS read the directions, page by page, word for word. PLEASE.
