After a stopping, 30 miles into a 50 mile ride, when I started the ride again the upper window was flashing. I thought at first the battery must be low as it was in the 40's and I was still using an older battery. But after awhile I figured out the speed/climb was working as well as the cadence (first ride with my brand new Trek Duo Trap integrated speed/cadence sensor and the Garmin Unlock firmware). But the Heart Rate was not. I was reluctant to press the center button to maybe get the heart rate back as I would be risking a trip reset. So I pressed on. The downloaded data showed the heart rate stopped for those last 20 miles but the speed and cadence data was fine.
I then did a sensor pairing test to check out the heart rate strap but the test would not read either the heart rate strap or the speed/cadence sensor (WLS Fail). Changing out the iBike battery and doing another sensors test worked fine for both the heart rate and the speed/cadence sensors.
So does a flashing upper window tell me I have sensor that is not working? I am guessing that my heart rate signal was unable to be read probably because the iBike battery was low. Or will it flash when the battery gets low enough by itself?

The flashing upper window tells you the iBike is looking for a sensor. If you're about to ride off and notice it flashing, just give the wheel a spin and press the center button. The only thing that will reset a ride is pressing and holding the center button; and even then you have to press it again to confirm so don't worry about accidentally resetting a ride. Low battery voltage in either the iBike, the wireless head or the speed/cad sensor can cause issues with finding sensors when it comes to to set off again. Since you're in a colder climate, keep those batteries fresh. You can always use the batteries again when it warms up or pop them in for your trainer rides if you do some.

Thanks. What was really surprising was the upper window flashed for the entire last 20 miles. Boy when the battery gets low it does some weird things to the iBike. I would have thought it would give up looking for the Heart Rate Sensor after a short period of time and tell me HRT Fail.racerfern wrote:The flashing upper window tells you the iBike is looking for a sensor. have you got the very latest firmware 4.03? I used to get the flashing problem regularly until the recent update which specifically addressed some of the scanning problems after stopping and starting http://www.ibikeforum.com/viewtopic.php ... 6852#p6852

Thanks. I just updated to firmware 4.02. (Could not find a 4.03) I got the flashing window again after stopping at a convenience store during a long ride. I hope the update solves the problem but I think it may be associated with a new set of sensors I got. I did not have the problem with the original iBike Speed and Cadnece sensors. I just got a Trek's Duo Trap combined Speed/Cadence sensor in which I needed to unlock the Garmin capability to receive the signal. For some reason when I leave the bike and return it is flashing and as I find out later, the heart rate sensor is not reading. Pushing the center button did not help. This time I finally stopped after several miles of flashing upper window, went to setup, then wireless Config and did Test in which all the sensors tested good. It then worked from then on. I think the new Duotrap sensor must still be on when I leave the bike and it searches for the heart rate and eventually gives up searching for the heart rate even though it is still flashing.

you really need 4.03 to fix that problem, here tis http://www.ibikeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1250
