Trainer Mode

Post by benlane »

My Gen II has arrived and is all set up and calibrated. Took it for its first quick sping this morning, impressed so far, seems more capable of handling some of the rough UK pave than GenI.

Ok, I have one of these: a Giant cyclotron trainer, the resistance automatically increases the harder you go. Can I use the trainer mode on this, I had a look at the list of compatible trainers and no Giant ones are on the list.
What would happen if I selected one of the others?

I'm not an expert on this, but basically guesswork will result in inaccurate power readings. You either need the power curve or you need to be able to discover it through a direct force power meter (DFPM) such as a PowerTap. Perhaps it is branded Giant but actually made by someone else with a known power curve?

The Kurt Kinetic web site has some info. They have a power meter that can be adapted to other trainers. You might check that out.
