Strange reset problem

Several times now (3-4 times over the course of the last 2-3 weeks), I've had my iBike reset while either pushing a button (this really sucks when it happens while on a ride) or disconnecting it from the USB connector/mount. When this occurs, every element on the LCD screen turns on and there is some message along the lines of 'data reset' or such (each time its happened, I've been shocked and dismayed enough that I haven't caught the message, plus, it only shows for about a second). After this reset, the ride is reset (the data is kept on the iBike in a useable ride file though) and the time/date is set to midnight on 5/28/2008. Wind offset is completely hosed up (along the lines of a 20-30mph offset, so I have to reset that). Tilt, units, altitude, wheel circumference, etc all seem to be Ok.

Any idea what could be causing this and what I can do about it? I don't know if perhaps its a battery connection thing, or a circuit board thing (ie, the mechanical stress of pushing a button or disconnecting from the mount is enough to cause it to reset), or if its a software thing or what, but its becoming more than a minor annoyance.

Jim,

It sounds like the battery in the unit is losing contact. When this happened to me I put a couple of pieces of tape on top of the wireless battery cover. It placed pressure on the cover and kept the battery in contact.

Thanks Guys - that appears to be the source of the problem - when I took the battery cover off last night to add the tape, I saw the same behavior (all lcd elements turning on and the 'data setup' message displaying). I cut a small circle out of 3 layers of electrical tape (to fit inside the screw-on cover) and affixed it to the little foam pillow that was already in there. It definitely took more effort to screw the cover back on, so I'm guessing that has things sandwiched in there pretty well. I'll see how it holds up over the course of the next few days/rides.

An easy fix if battery connection is the problem!
