My HRM failed the other day. I figured the battery was dead and went to change it to find moister had gotten into it and gunkafied the unit. I have tried the unit with a new battery but it does not work. Can it be rescued or is it dead?

This might be a little late, but try putting some orange or lemon juice in the meter, let it sit, then flush with warm water. The citric acid in the juice will dissolve corrosion w/o damaging the electronics. Afterward, place the HRM outside in the sun with the battery compartment open and facing up. The sun will heat the unit and help the moister evaporate out of the opening. The same procedure works with most electronics.
