Climbing Variance

I did a map my ride and the elevation gain per map my ride was 1,332 feet. When I did the ride the climbing number per the i bike was 3,120 feet. Why is there such a large variance ?

You can save the file to your desktop, then add it as an attachment to the post, or save the image once loaded, and do the same.
