Gen II, com port problems

I go through this about every 6 months. It's frustrating. Everything's great, then I get the "unit not responding" when I try to download info from my iBike. Usually I can figure it out. This time, nothing seems to work.

I'm using a Gen II unit with iBike 2.0. (I can't seem to upgrade to 4.0 -- I just tried and even though I've installed it, it doesn't show up on my Mac PowerPC anywhere).

Yes, the unit is on and the only thing connected to my USB. Yes, I try to go to Device-Connect. I've uninstalled and re-installed the USB Driver. What else can I do?

Tess -

What OS version are you running - Leopard (10.5.8 - I hope)? Sometimes all I have to do is hit the center red button and try again - other times I just take the connector off and plug it on again. One or both of those usually work.

The drivers are in several places and if you want to completely uninstall all of it - which is necessary to get a new and clean install - there should be a "National Instruments/NI VISA" folder in your applications folder. In this, there is a text file showing all of the files and where they are installed - you will have to go through the list and grab them all and trash them. then reboot.

Next you can trash version 2 of the iBike software and then run the version 4 installer for the PowerMac. Download a fresh copy of both files - application and drivers from the ibikesports.com site.

Hope this helps -

Tom,

Yes, thanks, very helpful! I trashed the National Instruments folders in Applications and Applications Support. I trashed iBike 2. I downloaded iBike 4 and the USB Driver and installed them. Then I launched the program and got the same error. Hitting the red button doesn't help. Plugging and unplugging the USB doesn't help. I'm not running Leopard on my Mac--it can only handle Tiger (10.4.11).

I'm totally open to other suggestions.

Your OS is the problem: iBike 4 software requires Mac OSX 10.5 or higher (this is stated in the instructions)

Okay, great. I'll go back to iBike 2. No problem. But that's what I was using before and not able to connect. Originally, the problem was not OS. So how do I get iBike 2 to recognize my iBike unit?

I will uninstall 4.0, reinstall 2.0, and go from there... but I've already tried that once...

It might be that your USB Adapter is intermittent, but we won't be able to check that until you get a working version of iBike software on your Mac.

Great. iBike 4 has been trashed, iBike 2 is up and working. Still getting "unit not responding" message. Now what can I try?

Hey, great news. I trashed the USB stuff and reinstalled and it seems to all be working fine now. Thanks for your suggestions; you guys are great!
