Speed spikes

Recently I've been seeing speed spikes (70-90 mph) in downloaded ride files (generally 1-3 spikes per file). Does this sound like a weak speed sensor battery? I've only had the wireless unit since about March, with 61 hours of use to date.
I just thought to see what others think before I lose the pairing on the sensor by removing the battery. Thanks.

Could be a bad battery, or it could also be a wireless speed sensor that is too far from the spoke magnet.

The new firmware seems to make the pairing issue a nit. The only time I have pairing problems now - the GSC10 (Garmin Speed/Cadence) gets wet after washing the bike or I need to change batteries. When I swap in a new battery, the unit picks up the new ID in a heart beat. Save the batteries until you are sure that was the source - if you swap. The magnet gap is pretty easy to tell too.

The magnet gap looked good, but I was able to move it the tiniest bit closer. If I still get the spikes, I'll replace the battery and see what happens.
Thanks for the assistance.
